Forget Gay Marriage: What About The Decline Of Marriage?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | March 27, 2013 | IBD EDITORIALS

Posted on 03/27/2013 4:10:17 PM PDT by raptor22

Marriage Decline: The disintegration of the nuclear family — particularly in the African-American community — and the rise in fatherless homes have greater societal implications than gay marriage, yet few pay attention.

The debate over gay marriage has taken center stage with two cases, one involving California's Proposition 8 which bans it, and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which bars federal agencies recognizing the validity of same-sex marriages in the states where they are legal, now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

We have argued that the civil purpose of marriage is not and never has been to reaffirm the love of two people for one another.

Nor is marriage primarily a business arrangement.

This country and healthy societies around the world and throughout history have given marriage between a man and a woman special legal protection because of the recognition that it is the one institution that ensures the society's stable future through the orderly procreation and upbringing of children.

In this context, we find the decline in marriage and the rise in illegitimacy, prime factors in crime, poverty and societal decay, being virtually ignored as the Supreme Court looks at the penumbras and emanations from the Constitution to decide whether Adam and Steve can legally tie the knot.

We should be more concerned about that than about gay rights and free contraceptives. As traditional marriage breaks down, so does society.

We have certainly come a long way from "The Cosby Show." In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote "The Negro Family: A Case for National Action."

At the time, 25% of black children were born out of wedlock, a number Moynihan called alarming. Today, 72% of black children are now born out of wedlock. In fact, 36% of white children are born out of wedlock.

The deconstruction of sex, gender, and marriage (a.k.a. the LGBT agenda) and the fate of the family in general, are not unrelated. Deal with this, Investors' Business Daily:

Under a homosexual regime, it will literally be illegal to do anything, to offer any teaching material or service, to have any advocacy or awareness program which actually promotes real marriage.

Try to have

...and the gays will come and demand that you let them in, give them equal "affirmation," or THEY will shut you down.

They will shut you down.

I am not being paranoid and predicting this. I am reporting it. It is already happening. They will shut you down.

Try to address any issue, anywhere, having to do with NORMAL sex, gender, marriage and family, and they will demand affirmative twisted-sexuality content according to their standards (not yours), and when you refuse, they will shut you down.

Investors' Business Daily does NOT know what we are facing.

I know how much Freepers hate the idea of a national DNA database.

However, if every American male knew he could be tracked down and held financially liable for his children, the illegitimate birthrate would drop quickly.

LOL ame here pal, if it were not for her I would have no idea where I would be.

After the military I went nuts, drinking bad, fights nearly every night with different guys, sometimes a group of them just because I wanted to fight, lost a couple of pals on the way because I did them over too but the one person who stood with me, the one person who put up with me, the one person who was always there and stuck by me when things were not bad and having nightmares and punching out with what some called flashbacks

was my wife.

She said as soon as she ever saw me she said ot her friend that she wanted to marry me.
I was on vacation and then started a job where she worked and low and behold.

17 years of marrriage though nearly 20 years of knowing her and a handful of kids later we are still with each other

In this day and age finding a young woman who is like her, cooks, cleans, helps out, has humor, good looking , great body, not selfish and understands lots of money is not the most important thing, well it;s hard today to find women like her

Good for you pal, hope you and your wife have a nice Easter

“Today, 72% of black children are now born out of wedlock. In fact, 36% of white children are born out of wedlock.”

Amoung black that are third generation welfare recipients, there is no gain in being married...it just messes with your benefits. Amoung whites where marraige has lost prestige & veneration, I’m surprised the numbers of “out of wedlock” births” aren’t much greater than 36%.

My husband and I have been married longer than the total of your two marriages.

I understand that sometimes, people make mistakes and divorce is necessary. However, for marriage to work, both people must have a commitment to its success.

Me three!

Question: Does it make sense when I say that although I'm in my second marriage, the woman that I'm married to now is my first wife?

I believe that the push to destroy society comes from the left’s desire to achieve utopia on earth.

Utopia does not exist. So they try to figure out why, and see some societal institution. They convince themselves that the institution in question is all that stands between humanity and utopia. So they do everything they can to destroy the institution. Once it is destroyed, and utopia has not appeared, they look around and find another institution that they can blame for the absence of utopia.

Of course, utopia is impossible. So they do more and more damage to society, seeking that impossible goal.

The irony is that the society they so dearly want to destroy is the one thing that ensures that as many people as possible have decent lives. Their efforts to achieve utopia have only driven us further from it.

does anything makes sense anymore pal?
Actually what you said , yes

I know a woman wo married, let and then married the same guy again and she said she should never have let the guy go in the first place, she thought the grass was greener on the other side and then realised how much she missed him

Marriage: Designed for a purpose. When used well it brings forth wonderful things in you and your children. It's like ripples in a calm lake.

I'm always a bit shocked by these threads, so many people dissing the kind of depth relationship they never worked for, so they can never understand how wonderful it really is.

Soon all the homosexuals will be married and all the straights will be living in sin.

I don’t think the gays understand the true PAWNS they are of the Left. The Left sees gays as Useful Idiots.

They are being USED to further the socialist agenda. Break down the nuclear family, normalize any and every kind of sexual perversion and BINGO! You’re all in.

Why do I constantly have to EXPLAIN this to people? I just do not get it...

It's not homosexuals wanting to be married that has hastened the ruin of marriage. It is heterosexuals who started practicing serial monogamy, or didn't bother getting married at all, and let their children raise themselves, with disastrous results.

Divorce is a tough thing, I've seen it with friends so I'm not going to say it's never the right thing to do; I'm just thankful about having partnered with a great woman and to have had the kind of relationship (in all ways) that makes us both more full.

Sure, we've had knock down drag outs, the whole nine yards, but I'd not trade our time together (or our children, our shared business, our life together) for anything.

Thanks! Good to know I'm not all the way crazy.

Seriously, I'll be honest here. I never, ever was in love in my first marriage. It was two things, really.

I was in love with the idea of being in love, not the woman. Also, a drop-dead gorgeous woman who came to me appealed to my own vanity. I didn't even see her until...

Why lie?
