Iowa newspaper accused of endangering kids with school security map

Iowa's biggest newspaper is under fire after publishing a map that showed which public school districts have police or security -- and which ones don't.

Critics said the Des Moines Register, which quickly pulled the interactive map off of its website, was making it easy for a deranged killer to know where to launch a Sandy Hook-style attack.

"What they did yesterday was provide a shopping list for every nut job in Iowa," WHO radio host Simon Conway, who said his phone lines "blew up" as soon as he began discussing the map with his audience, told Fox News Channel.

The paper's investigation, which Editor Rick Green said was mounted in response to the Dec. 14 attack in Newtown, Conn., which left 20 children dead, found hundreds of schools have no police or private security during portions of the day. Of the state’s 25 largest school districts, only three do not utilize school resource officers, a survey by the by Des Moines Register newspaper found. The online map that originally accompanied the story allowed readers to identify more than 100 public schools, including high schools and community college campuses with varying degrees of security.

Green told Fox News Channel that the map was only on the paper's website for 20 minutes, after which it was taken down amid an avalanche of angry phone calls.

They also posted a listing of all the gun permit holders in the city of Des Moines a few years back. The stupid rag Cityview did the same a year or so later.

When we called them to complain they just said “Well, it’s public knowledge” and thought nothing of it.

Liberals don’t mind giving information to their criminal friends. That’s how they can generate more fear and dependence on government.

But but.. schools by law, are gun-free zones... thus there is no danger of gun violence to the little chillins of Ioway.

Not to matter.

After all, all those schools are gun-free zones, right?

Intentionally intending to put children in danger in order to push gun-control agenda.

These are hard-core left wing kooks that match any bunch of left-wing kooks at any newpaper in America.

""What they did yesterday was provide a shopping list for every nut job in Iowa,"

Ah, um, ya. Kinda' like schools, bars, restaurants and retail shops and malls where they post "Gun Free Zone" signs. That's known as a target rich environment.

FoxNews should do a story on ‘Newspaper Armed Security’ - those writers are a lot more secure than your children... Newspapers don’t rely on gun control laws - they have security...

Why didn’t the stupid newspaper inform the schools that they had one month to update security for their students or else they would list the unsecured schools? The schools would have been forced to protect their students.

Uh, because protected students can’t be used in their gun-prohibition efforts.

"Security through obscurity is not security."

True -- to a point.

Just as concealed-carry gun laws provide some security for everyone (because, the bad guys don't know who's armed, and who isn't); if all school-security measures were truly obscure, then the nut jobs would have to consider that there might be armed security at a school they chose to hit.

Please, notice all the conditional statements above. The problem is that a school's security measures are, at best, an open secret. The interactive map would only save a determined psycho a few minutes of research time. That makes your statement correct, in practice. Regardless, publishing the map was an insanely bad idea.

Because like typical leftists, they know better what’s good for the community. Hope they get smacked with a nasty lawsuit.

What is dumber then gathering all your precious youngsters into a single building where they are not being protected by any armed guards ?

Publishing maps where these unprotected children are every day.

Leftism is a mental disorder. Seek help !

Nope, if one kid dies because of their reckless endangerment, that paper needs to be shut down, the owner, editors and reporters that contributed to that article and allowed it to be published need to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder and as an accomplice to the crime.

What they did is no better than someone abusing their 2nd Amendment Rights to murder 22 children in a school. I’ve come to absolutely despise reporters.

It must be so that mentally deranged individuals will walk in and kill more kids. They they will be able to demand confiscation of all guns, except those held by violent criminals.

That’s how the leftist mind works. It’s not rational.

The Register is owned by Gannett, probably the single most arrogant and elitist of the newspaper organizations in the US. A few years ago, after losing a significant number of advertisers and subscribers, the paper fired (early retirement, they said) a dozen of their experienced reporters and hired a bunch of kids.
This looks to be their handiwork.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm - - - - ?

You don’t suppose that the newspaper editor was targeting the Iowa School kids that Obama refused to let tour our White House do you?

Although it is well known that the Obamanation Liberal Media will do anything to prop up their li’l dictator Obama, but sicking kid shooters on school kids who complained about being locked out of the White House is a bit much even for an Obamanation Liberal!

BTW, just what was the motive of the Des Moines Register Newspaper Editor for aiding and abetting serial kid killers?
