Wal-Mart Stores Inc is considering a radical plan to have store customers deliver packages to online buyers, a new twist on speedier delivery services that the company hopes will enable it to better compete with Amazon.com Inc.

Online packages delivered by customers may never reach their destination, either through theft or fraud, the analyst said.

Such a crowd-sourced delivery service may not be as reliable as FedEx or United Parcel Service

To me, the sweater is only slightly more offensive than a Che sweatshirt.

Just what I need, a package delivered via a “Hover-A-Round” scooter.

In seeing how the left succeeds in brainwashing you against Walmart, we can see how they can bend America to their will so easily, the process is so simple, that “People of Walmart” idea was brilliant, conservatives would never have thought to do that to Home Depot, or Costco, or other stores who are union and/or anti-gun.

Used to have a buddy that worked at the corporate HQ for Wal-Mart. He worked his way up from stock boy. He was a Wal-Mart lifer that bled blue. He punched out about 5 years ago and said the MBAs that took over Wal-Mart after Sam passed away were going to destroy it, and that the Walton family members could care less as they were off enjoying Sam’s fortune.

A recent article said their shelves were empty because they won’t hire enough stockers. They have stuff piled to the ceiling in the back of the stores. The local managers have zero power and the entire company is at the mercy of the MBAs at the corporate HQ. Our entire country appears to be stuck on stupid when it comes to leadership, Wal-Mart is going to crash hard if they don’t clue in.

That was my first thought. They are going to be ripped off more than they are now. Let’s just hand it over to the thieves. I just heard on the news that Walmart is setting up special lockers for online buyers.

It would easily be more reliable than FedEx in my locale. FedEx won't deliver to this remote rural area without a lot of trouble despite its advertising and reacts to complaints by damaging products.

How about background checks on the people who will be doing the delivering?

UPS does background checks and finger printing. UPS delivery people must meet strict grooming standards and tats that show are discouraged. Photo ID must visible at all times.

Fed Ex and USPS are laxer on UPS standards in this regard.

Yep. Either the on-line buyers or the customers making the deliveries could be dangerous or in danger.

What company would take on the liability?

“Odd. I just saw this thread after looking at the “People of Walmart” thread.”

No kidding! Can you imagine going to your door to find a Walmartian with a package for you. With some of them, i’d call the cops immediately.

If someone at Walmart said I’d get 10% off my groceries to pick up a small list for someone else and drop it off on the way home, I’d consider it.
If they are asking people to do that for free or chump change, no.

The inventory issue is one created at Bentonville and has nothing to do with Unions. What it has to do with is a Nickle and Dime one box at a time inventory system. When Walmart first hit it big they kept items on hand. If it wasn't on the shelves it was likely back in the stockroom and a clerk would go look and see. Today if an item is not in stock it might be in the regional warehouse or they may wait till a few more stores run out and do a larger order from the manufacturer.

I've seen very weird shortages like 10W/30 motor oil. It doesn't do any good to talk to a manager they have very little say or control about when shipments come in. Walmart is loosing money because of this. Some items may come in the next day some may be weeks. Walmart Corp HQ who is doing this doesn't seem to care.

Stoopid idea. There’s the obvious problem of theft, but in addition that that people are going to be exposed to more personal crime as well. Like I’d open my door to the losers I’ve seen run around WM.

Customers delivering packages to online buyers. What could possibly go wrong there?

Nice ipod you bought there. Mind if I borrow it? :-)
