My first apartment was above that of elderly retired heavy smokers. They smoked from the minute they got up to the minute they went to bed. My place reeked of smoke even in the winter with windows closed.

My furniture, my hair, my clothing, everything smelled of stale smoke. It was like I had sat in a small, smoky bar for hours.

After about a year, the man passed away (no wonder-he coughed up a lung every morning) and his wife moved. A younger couple moved in and they smoked as well, but it was only bad at night because they were at work all day.

The better question??

Should anyone regulate smoking??

It's this that has led to everything else...and the motive is money....not health. Health is the excuse...

That this question is even asked is proof that the State of CA is not one of the Free United States.

Sorry for all of you stuck there, but there is no fence on Nevada’s Western border...yet.

"This is a really hard one to balance in fairness to everyone."

Not really. All it requires is a "lawsuit", not a "law". If enough money changes hands in court, those who rent to others will fix their rental properties.

BTW, I am a non-smoker.

I long ago gave up caring what those commies do or don’t do. I’ll never live there again. I wish free states would erect some kind of barrier to keep the tainted from escaping the hell holes they’ve created and bringing their collectivism to where the good people live, though.

Lots of people jumped on the no smoking ban and it was so successful we have the government telling us what we can drink and where we can smoke and now every idiot with a axe to grind can get something banned....If the smoking nazi’s hadn't been so successful, we would not have all the other bans that will be coming our way soon....so the only choice we will be able to make is whether or not to kill our babies..a mother that murders her baby in the womb is welcome but a smoker is not.....what a colossal joke

lol they can try to regulate it.. but it will never be enforced, because I know a lot of Californians that smoke and they have perfected smoking in their homes to an art-form.

God help anyone that tells me I cant smoke in my home I own, and I am so glad I left Kalifornia and now live in a free state.

California doesn't have the budget to do anything.

Let them continue to posture.

I’m getting real close to going over and ask him to do something about his two little yappy dogs that he keeps out all day while he and the wife are at work.

This is one of the reasons why God caused some man to create pellet guns.

He did make it to retirement and being called ‘elderly’ by you though. The smoking couldn’t have been THAT harmful.

Yes, I kept telling people that were pushing these smoking bans that this was truly the camel's nose under the tent. I always mentioned that if they can do this to an unpopular group that nobody likes, someday they'll come for something YOU enjoy.

What are they going to do about it? Nothing.

I was frankly stunned that NYC got all huffy when the soda ban was passed.

What did they think would happen? Nanny staters don't stop. They never will.

Sadly, many FReepers will support these usurpations of private property rights and then sit back in amazement when similar tactics will be used against Christians. If we don’t protect private property and freedom to associate with like minded folks, then we can’t be shocked when homos successfully force churches to accommodate their weddings.
