I played basketball in high school in the 1970s. I do not agree with the notion that this coach’s firing is an example of wussification. This guy has a problem and needs help.
I wonder if he would have been fired if he took Rutgers to the Sweet Sixteen?
Winning is a great deodorant.
RE: This guy has a problem and needs help.
How is he compared to Bobby Knight?
I haven’t seen the video, but I agree that sometimes people are just jerks and deserve to be fired. I’ve worked for a bully boss. Though he never hit a kicked me, he was a drain on productivity and creativity. There are coaches who win without hitting and kicking their players.
Yeah, I just watched the video. He should have been fired. Good riddance.
Couldn’t agree more. This Coach has issues. I played basketball, football and ran track. I had many tough coaches. This guy isn’t tough, he’s nuts.
Yeah, maybe those moments in the video were cherry-picked, but that looked less like someone trying to motivate players to learn, and more like somebody with serious rage issues.

He was initially suspended for ‘anger management’ type issues. THEN they came up with the video that showed him using anti-gay slurs. THAT is what caused the firing.
I saw the video. IMHO, it's one thing to kick a little butt and get the team motivated. It's quite another to be consistently physically abusive.
This guy crossed the line, from what I could see.
