Sen. Coburn Drafts His Own Gun Bill

Sen. Tom Coburn (R., Okla.) is quietly circulating his own proposal for expanding gun-sale background checks, a sign that the conservative lawmaker may be trying to build support outside of long-running bipartisan negotiations on the issue.

After struggling for months to reach a deal with Democrats on how to broaden background checks, Mr. Coburn has written a 43-page draft of a bill that wouldn’t require private gun sellers to keep a paper record of the sale, according to a copy of the proposal.

Dropping the record-keeping requirement would make it difficult for Democrats to support the bill, according to individuals familiar with the negotiations. Democrats have argued there is no way to enforce the checks without some form of documentation.

“Sen. Tom Coburn (R., Okla.),” Democrat—same thing. No more anti-Second-Amendment laws. No compromises. Many existing laws need to be repealed.

Senator Tom Coburn, Republican, should be concentrating more on cutting government spending, especially pork.

Coburn has been squishy on many things. He, like many Republicans, seems to have this absurd desire to get along with the Democrats. We don’t send Republicans to D.C. to play nice with people who spend every waking minute devising new ways to deprive us of our rights and property.

Sen. Coburn, drop the whole thing! We don’t need any new gun laws.

RE :”Sen. Coburn, drop the whole thing! We don’t need any new gun laws.”

Like I said, if nothing gets passed because the Senate Dems reject the offer then the GOP has scored a huge hit on Obama and Dems.(regarding background checks )

If Dems accept it and it passes then its a sellout.

Immigration is a great example. If the GOP rejects citizenship the Dems will kill its.

Senator Coburn is likely maneuvering. He knows how to play the game.

He is the Senator who maneuvered Barack Obama into signing the law that removed 70 years of prohibitions of firearms in Federal lands, particularly parks.

He is a smart guy, and he would not have expended as much political capitol on the guns in parks bill if he was not on our side. http://usgovinfo.about.com/b/2009/05/20/credit-card-bill-allows-guns-in-national-parks.htm

You have more faith in him than I do. I hope you are correct.

Stings —
They just collect evidence for the attempted stings that go their way.
Then serve arrest warrants later.
This is how our local PD does booze for underage kids stings.
One fine day all the Quicky-Marts get served one after the other.

I generally like Sen Tom Coburn, but in this case, he is almost as idiotic as the gun-grabbing democRAT libturds. Why in the world is he conspiring with the liberal socialist gun-grabbing demTurds?

WTH, will this stop any inner city criminal thugs or hoodies from committing shooting crimes? Will they comply with this? Will any criminals be willing to participate in any aspect of this?

The answer to these questions is of course, ABSOLUTELY NOT! The only people who will be affected by this legislation, will of course by only LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.

ANY information given to any gubmint agency can & will be used against you. So Sen Tom Coburn, my response is ABSOLUTELY NO!

Coburn wants us to believe a government promise that private sellers won’t later be told they have to keep a record of the sale or send a record to a government repository? That government won’t make a record of your call listing your name and the name of the person to whom you are transferring the firearm. This on the same day the ATF put in the Federal Register a notice it wants to access all federal data on addresses, phone #s, tax records, finance transactions, criminal records & mental treatment records? Promise me a free trip to the Moon too.

Dr. Coburn used to be a great Senator, then in 2008 he went hard left. Maybe if you are in the Senate long enough that happens. He should have gotten out before he lost his soul.

So we should just let the 2A get shredded? That is your argument?

No....sorry I have been misunderstood. Let me try to be more precise even though it’ll take a little more space. :)

Why are Republican senators even OFFERING a “gun control” bill anyway? The message just needs to be sent, loud and clear to the Assclown and his gun-grabbing friends, “THIS ISSUE IS OFF THE TABLE. DON’T EVEN BOTHER BRINGING IT UP. WE ARE NOT NEGOTIATING ANYTHING.”

This is the SAME exact thing Nazi Pelozi did when George W. Bush tried to save Social Security. No conversations, no debate, she just shut down any discussion—and blocked EVERYTHING that had to do with the issue. Bush had to do “town hall” meetings and that fizzled.

Same thing we need to do with the Assclown. Just go before the cameras everytime he does a town hall and nay-say his remarks. And REFUSE to offer bills or discuss them.

That was my point. I was a little ticked off Coburn is even OFFERING anything.
