Student trying to start white student group at TCC [Tarrant County College, Texas]

FORT WORTH -- A 57-year-old Tarrant County College student is gathering signatures supporting the formation of a white student group that would allow people to embrace their heritage while also addressing issues such as affirmative action and the creation of a White History Month.

Richard Railey, who is studying information technology at TCC, has been trying to generate support for the White Student Union of Tarrant County. He said white students don't have a group of their own, but groups have been formed around other races, ethnicity or interests.

I'm usually completely against group politics of the sort that blacks and other racial minorities constantly seem to embrace. But, what's good for the goose....

Absolutely - They way it is right now is only whites are supposed to be ‘colorblind’. As long as there are black & Hispanic, etc advocacy groups then whites should have them too.

LOL!!! I'm just adjacent to this city. Hope you were being tongue-in-cheek, though. But a part-hispanic friend of mine jokes as well, calling it "Whites Only," and tells his obviously Hispanic wife to duck down when they drive through.

A PC mayor tried to change the city's name to "West Settlement" several years ago and was promptly voted out on his keister by disapproving citizens. As it should be.

Depends on what you classify as “white.”

Technically, Hispanics are “white.” From a completely racial-stock perspective, they are. In fact, a Hispanic person’s DL will say “W” for race.

Technically Spaniards are white. And then there are Spanish-speaking Argentinians of German origin.

Most Hispanics in this country are mestizo, or indio. or a good deal of African, i.e. Dominican Republic or Puerto Rican.

I vote for more Japanese-Peruvian immigrants. Just because.

For those interested, Fort Worth was actually a fort.. a military base. Outside the fort there was an Indian settlement and a white settlement. The name stuck

I'm proud to be Euro also, and a native to that particular part of Texas, for five generations at least, on both sides of the family. And nearly the same age as the mischievous organizer there in Tarrant County.

Just as I'm proud more particularly of being descendant of Germans and the tribes of Britain, along with the Comanche, Creek with at least one African American "in the woodshed," along the trail.

Of course, all this makes me "pass," as they used to say, or pigeon hole, as is the practice of modern day progressive bigots, as "White."

I still classify myself as an American, and a typical Texan.

In the stifling sticky world of tiny brains and community colleges, I can either join all the various student unions or stay at home and hate myself.
