There’s a big twist to that, called “overkill”.
Overkill does not mean hitting the same target with multiple warheads. Instead it means that missiles are so very prone to failure that there must be target redundancy, or else many targets will not be hit at all.
Even the US, which produces the finest missiles in the world, was assumed to have about a 50% failure rate with liquid fueled missiles, reduced to about 30% with the use of solid propellant.
The Soviet Union never got anywhere near this success rate, and North Korea is probably around a 75% failure rate. Iran would also likely have a very high failure rate.
The bottom line is that the only time the NKors should risk fueling their rockets is just prior to launch. Iran is much more careful, realizing that their fueling can be detected via satellite, so have now built silos for its missiles, so that the process is hidden underground.
These folks came into the service during the time of William the Impeached. They fought the War on Terror and were bombarded daily with the drumbeat of the Left. They now owe their position and their pensions to The Obama.
The service academies are now training this generation to look upon us as "knuckle-dragging-teabagging-neocon-bitter-clingers". You have no doubt seen post after post on FR citing the training manuals and official statements.
I have little patience with all the "oathkeeper" nonsense. Careerists and LIFER's in uniform are no less apparatchiks than Congress or the Media. They want their pay and benefits package, and then their pensions and their dachas by the lake after a lifetime of faithful service to The Obama.
Seoul is a great city for the most part. The extreme density of the population surprises most Americans. Even more congested then New York City.
The night life can get wild but if he stays with a group he should have a lot of fun. If he has a chance to get out and see any of the national parks he should. I’ve been to several which had 2000-3000 yr old temples and other objects on them. Lots of history.
BTW, the local SK news channels are saying they expect NK to attack American territory, not SK.

haven’t heard any of the news outlets really question why austin? has to be some kind of Bush connection. Just like the gulf war, 911, iraq war, etc there always seems to be a little bit of bush family hanging out the sides of the sandwich. Old man bush must be really corrupt - or have the dirt on all these guys - or really screwed them and their pappys over royaly back in the day.

what everyone needs to focus on is fatboy’s aunt and uncle. They are really running the show via military. They are old school, getting old - and have a grudge to settle. It is unlikely they wish to die without first setting foot in seoul. North Korea can easily take seoul in one day. There is no question about that ability. And they can do that with conventional forces since they outnumber the SK military significantly. They will use the artillery on SK and US bases, not seoul (they want to preserve it, make it the new unified capital) and basically have free reign of the penninsula within 72 hours. Once they hold it, things become a bloodbath for the US. And with public opinion the way it is, obama is unlikely to commit more than token forces to that battle. Most likely becomes and unending series of “Peace” negotiations which we could never win. After a few years of ruling in seoul and reaping profits from nationalized industries little kim will have the ability to strike japan hard. China will enjoy that and be ready to take long expected revenge against JP for old sins by taking a few islands, anything related to energy production, and let NK worry about the rest. Forget talk about an EMP strike. Not powerful enough. And NK has no need or desire to strike the US mainland, just spook the populace out of fighting back when he take seoul. We are safe and sound - seoul, however, is in very real danger this time. NK has moved significant forces to the border quietly over the past 12 months as well as increased infiltration onto the SK side of the dmz in prep for something. Little kim things he is golden - he thinks it is his time.

I think they launch, our missile defense system fails, and they end up nuking SK at least, maybe Japan too. Big winner under that scenario is China!
The Nork’s may end up hitting a US city, but this is going to be a proxy play that ends up severing our commitment to Japan at the end of WWII.
Obama has signaled the end of the US’s willingness to provide global economic or military stability.
China and Russia won’t invade us, but they may seek to cripple us.
What the press has yet to report is the unprecidented level of anger Europe and Asia has over US monetary policy. “Act of War” has been the words used over all the pumping.
Europe has reached its syphillitic end. The US will be a non-factor. China and Russia will remain.
It’ll be funny for the survivors to see if they’ll cooperate from there. Hitler was counting on the Brits to surrender, which screwed everything up for him from that point on.
We are getting what we voted for. I’ve said this before - as long as it takes the President plus one to launch nukes, why wouldn’t you want to waste the US seaboards with this guy in office?
They should have done it when Nancy was Speaker. You’d have had to go down the chain of succession a long way to find someone willing to give the go code.
Obama is the “Revenge on the USA” tour. Retribution is the only theme that fits this guy’s agenda. Anybody that doesn’t think he’s a successful President is using their own scorecard, and not the one Obama is using.

We haven’t really fought to win since the end of WWII. We accepted a tie in Korea, a loss in Vietnam, and the uncertain results in GW1, OIF and OEF, with the only exception being Grenada. Even that had some problems. I don’t think we’d know what to do if we did win, and we certainly aren’t going to carpet-bomb like we did in WWII, or do whatever is necessary to achieve a victory.

I encourage you to review the last decade or so of history. The US is winding up two of the longest wars in it’s history. You’ll also find that Iraq had one of the largest militaries on the planet and were defeated in a “great war” like the one you posit we can no longer fight.
If you look further back in our history, you will find draft riots, incompetent presidents, incompetent generals, opposition to conflict, and plenty of depleted backbones - even during the Revolution. The only exception to this is WWII.
Sadly, I think Americans generally lack the depth of historical knowledge to understand or accept the fact that WWII is the EXCEPTION, not the rule for US wars throughout her history. Obama is a McClellan not an Eisenhower, so you can see the depths to which we are screwed. The American people have always lacked the “backbone” for total war (to use your word). Isolation has generally been our first reaction to conflicts. The difference has always been leadership and political will.
In the days leading up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the following Iraq War, the Army consisted of 375,000 troops. No where near a million plus. Iraq did not have 19,000 artillery units capable of hitting our forces on day one. Nor the number or tanks and millions of land mines protecting their troops. This would be Iraq times three easily.
But I agree whole-heartily we do not have the political will or the leadership for this fight. If something does happen, screwed is too soft of term.

Yes, I agree with your thinking on this point. And Iraq didn’t have nuclear weapons. One nuke and Seoul is done. Of course the payback would be a b**ch.
People like to posture on the N. Korea threads about what a pushover N. Korea would be, but I never agreed with that position. Whatever the status of their equipment, their soldiers will be motivated.
Iraq and Afghanistan have taught us that a motivated enemy with little more than small arms and mortars can wage an effective guerilla war against superior technology - IEDs are decidedly low tech. The Korean War taught us that N. Korean soldiers can be as tough as any soldiers on the planet. Hanging over all of this is China.
I’m not trying to refute my previous arguement :) I still think Americans have it in them to fight a big war. Maybe one last big war like Britian in the ‘40s or the Ottoman’s in 1914 before we exhaust ourselves as a world power. After that....I can’t say.
Time to nuke ‘em till they glow. Then we won’t have to deal with that problem anymore.
When all the politicians and their families haul ass for the hills, you know something’s coming. Those cowards will run like hell and they won’t tell a soul until it’s over. The government must continue, you know.
