NY SAFE Act: ANY healthcare provider or local official can turn you for firearms confiscation
Fox News Channel (NO LINK) | 4/11/13

Posted on 04/11/2013 10:24:10 AM PDT by pabianice

Now reporting on the NY Lewis case in which a gun owner had his guns and LTC confiscated.

As the facts emerge, it is much worse than we thought. The state SAFE Act cancels the federal HIPPA Act (Surprise!), which is supposed to keep your health info private. No one has yet admitted who supplied to the NY State Police information that at some time Lewis took a mood leveling medicine. The REALLY scary part is that under SAFE, any "healthcare provider" -- physician, nurse, physical therapist, personal care assistant, pharmacy technician, LPN, elder day care visitor -- can turn you in to the state as unfit to own a firearm. Once named, you have no right to appeal.

Also according to the Fox report, Lewis' lawyer is already reporting that what happened to Lewis is happening to other clients.

And today Senate Republicans blessed Reid's plan to pass Obama's gun registration --> confiscation plans by banning the "transfer" of firearms among citizens. Of course, the House will surely save us. /S

It is the same situation in Minnesota. After moving back to Texas, I continued to get phone calls from the Minnesota nannies. I no longer recognize any professional license issued by the State of Minnesota.

The Romans called them delatores or "tale-bearers", = "snitches", "informants".

Domitian was the worst and most assiduous at encouraging delatores. Under the Roman system, persons wanted by the State usually faced only two punishments: exile, or death. (Romans didn't have prisons or imprisonment as a punishment; incarceration was only a temporary holding-tank measure.)

If the punishment was death, the State took the dead man's estate and the informant got a nice chunk. Under Domitian and the later emperors, this process was a major source of government revenue, as senators got better and better at shielding, hiding, or sheltering their incomes and assets from tax collectors (who also worked on commission).

Lucius Annaeus Seneca, the senator, philosopher, and poet, was condemned by Nero, about 20 years before the accession of Domitian in 81. Seneca owned one estate in northern Italy whose annual wine production was worth 30,000 gold aurei annually (an aureus was about 7 grams of 99% pure gold). That's 210 kg of pure gold, or at recent prices around $1600/oz., about $11.8 million. Annually.

Treason trials of millionaires were the major business of the Roman court system for the last 300 years of its existence.

Exactly, HIPAA was intended to protect patient confidentiality except where the government is concerned. They can access your records for a multitude of reasons and you won’t ever be notified.

So how many fewer people will be seeking psychiatric help now?

Great job dems.

Everything they do has the opposite effect.

“Help” those with psychiatric conditions only turns them away.

Talk of banning guns only produces a 2 year backlog for AR-15’s.

They people are beyond clueless.

It’s not Godwin’s Law if the steps are all falling into place to replicate history.

Hehehe, right on...

Like I’ve said before...Anyone who lives in NY, YOU made this bed, now YOU get to lay in it...hehehe

Cry me a river for ALL the problems you have with your elected officials and the nonsense they espouse and enact...

When you were afforded an opportunity to join into this independent group of states 230+ years ago...YOU GUYS ABSTAINED even back then...

So your history follows you to this day...

You know there is a convention of thought that says you can have bookshelves full of accolades and accomplishments, but one “Awww Crap!” and that is all that anyone will remember...

I don’t hate to say this, but NY, you have a lot more “Awwww Craps!!!” lining those shelves today...

I’m not even going to bother telling anyone from that state how to fix this problem...Y’all just stay up there and live with it...

An enterprising attorney could also make the case this is nothing more than a Bill of Attainder. Legislatively, one is found "guilty" and their rights taken from them without due process.

NY SAFE is a target-rich environment.

“Like I’ve said before...Anyone who lives in NY, YOU made this bed, now YOU get to lay in it...hehehe”

I live in NY. If you think I did anything to bring this on you are (among other character flaws) stupid.

Your little “hehehe” at the end of that sentence tells me that you take delight in my situation.

You sound like a complete asshole.

GFY

Well you certainly haven’t done sh!t to fix your own house have YOU!!!

“Your little “hehehe” at the end of that sentence tells me that you take delight in my situation.”

I have nothing but an indifferent skepticism, and belief that NY has nothing to offer to this union but a plethra of liberalism and soft republican politics, that is fairly worthless...I do not delight in anything this state has to offer at this particular juncture...

And your next statement proves YOUR worth to any further discussion...Very NY’ker of YOU...

“You sound like a complete asshole.”

Wow, you really got me there...You must be the best proctologist in NY...

My fault??? That Reid (D-NV) drops the bill into the laps of the Senate to debate???

That procedure, was a vote cast to bring the bill to the floor for debate...Not a vote for passing or rejection...Yet...

By all means try to have credible evidence of it being anyones “elses” fault, if it goes badly for all of us...I seriously doubt you will find any evidence of this being my fault...

And I had a great weekend, thanks...

Sure, your fault. You are blaming NY’ers for the SAFE Act so by the same logic, you, as an American, are responsible in the same fashion for any gun bill passed by Congress.
Bon Appetit.
