Most people assumed that anything truly problematic in new gun-control legislation that comes out of the Senate would have little chance of getting through the House. Looks like well get a chance to test that hypothesis sooner rather than later. Rep. Peter King (R-NY) told Politico today that he and Mike Thompson (D-CA) will introduce the House version of Manchin-Toomey by Tuesday at the latest:
"Reps. Peter King and Mike Thompson are planning to introduce a House version of the compromise on background checks for gun buyers on Monday or Tuesday, King told POLITICO exclusively on Friday.
I will be introducing, along with Mike Thompson [D-Calif.], basically the House version of the Manchin-Toomey bill on Monday or Tuesday at the latest, the New York Republican said, referencing the bipartisan agreement on background checks reached this week between Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.).
He said the legislation will replicate what was agreed to by those senators, a bipartisan deal that expands background checks for commercial gun purchases, including those made at gun shows."
Will this go anywhere in the House? King believes that it will draw significant support among Republicans, which if true means it should pass easily assuming it gets out of committee. ....

You cannot “compromise” the second amendment,
it is specifically prohibited.
Anything other than the 2A is the 2A is unacceptable.
The Peter King that I know should know that already.
Awww so cute, a one party State now.
As currently written, it does not expand background checks for commercial gun purchases, it expands background checks for any transfer of a firearm.
This means you cannot loan your shotgun to your brother-in-law for the weekend so he can go duck hunting. It means a son can't his father's deer rifle during deer season. It may even mean that you can't let others fire your gun at the range.
Why don't they just shutter the courts and cancell elections fer cryin' out loud.....
TRAITORS!!
That's all you really need to know.
Amen. These politicians are racing to bring up more amendments and to add in a new bill which proves this thing should had never been up for a debate.
What would we do without these caring, parental politicians?
>>> draw significant support among Republicans”
If GOP controlled House passes a House version of Manchin-Toomey (now it seems Feinsteinâs reviving the AWB), they can forget about a significant support from the base.
And no idle threat.
They don't have to bother cancelling elections.
If voting could change the path we're on, it would be illegal.
Only two GOPers were open to the bill (King and Dent). Even in the unlikely event a Bill gets out the Senate and/or the House Committee, I doubt the Bills would be identical therefore require conference. Once the conference Bill is complete, 60 votes would still be required to pass in the Senate.
The fix is in.
It's called conditioning those in the middle of the moment of a tragedy. He has went to the other side again.
Off with their heads!
All of them!
Well, except for Ted Cruz...
Nothing these guys are doing would have prevented that
sicko from killing those kids.
Oh well. It's JUST a right granted by God and protected by the constitution.
Obama said legal gun owners won`t be stripped of their guns.
He also said he would not increase the debt one single dime.
Get it ?
He raised it by TRILLIONS so he did not lie.
Same for “legal gun owners” . Under the legislation if you leave home and your gun is there is it technically been transferred? If you loan it it has been transferred ? Therefore, YOU and the other person are now FELONS and NOT legal gun owners. GO TO JAIL.
How about if I ‘find’ a gun, and offer to return it to its original owner, of course gratefully accept a $599.95 (or, whatever) ‘reward’ for my efforts?
Significant is an overstatement.
Would it be sufficient to attract 30 - 35 R votes?
If so, then it passes. Boehner likely has the R votes he needs to get it passed with D votes.
Endgame.
