Charges against St. Louis County gun instructor put concealed-carry permits in doubt
St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 04/13/2013 | Christine Byers

A St. Louis County police records clerk was stumped when a concealed-carry permit applicant presented a certificate showing he had received the required eight hours of firearms training that very day.

She looked at her watch. It was about 1:30 p.m. March 5. She asked exactly when he took the class. It started at 10 a.m., he said. She alerted supervisors.

Lol. Right? FFL's and CCW permit proponents are a BIG part of the problem we find ourselves in today. Since when do free men ask permission? Oh well, gotta make those profits, right? Even at the expense of the very people and industry that you claim to support. Right. Got it.

Drats...too late.

If I could get the permit after a two hour course, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, Missouri requires 8 HOURS of training, no matter what your background. So, take a day off work or get nothing done on a Saturday or Sunday.

agreed. These short cutters not only let people not really safe to handle a gun, et the permit. - one guy in the NRA class I took was showing off is personal weapon, saving it around, and pointed it straight at my head...he wan’t even reprimanded.

These shortcutters could make it harder to get/keep CC permits available in states.

If they’re collecting the money for doing the job - let them do the job. Don’t give our enemies ‘ammunition.”

8 hours does seem rather stupidly long to me. I think the CCW course I did here in CO was about 3 (no range time). I only learned a few new things since I had read up quite a bit on the subject when I had my PA CCW (which required no course at all and was appreciably cheaper).

I continue to balk at hunting in CO because of the 12 hour hunter safety course. I really don’t need to be taught gun safety by this point (considering I’ve taught those rules to possibly 100 people), and not shooting orange is a pretty simple concept.

As to the trainer in question, he does deserve to get busted for fraud. If he didn’t like the law, he could have worked to have it changed. Putting his students in legal jeopardy does nobody a favor.

Amen. We are lied about all the time.
Why give our enemies something real?

"So, take a day off work or get nothing done on a Saturday or Sunday."

Twenty years ago I had to complete a day long class to obtain a pistol permit in CT. It was attended by a bunch of put out, inconvenienced, mildly angry guys like me. The teacher was good, hard core 4th amendment type, who had to listen to us sarcastic and bitter people for much of a Saturday.

Here in New Hampster, a "shall issue" state, no class is required for a permit. Next week the local CrimeWatch group along with the police department are sponsoring a two hour gun safety course. Nothing hands on, just an informational thingy for people who are interested. A local NRA instructor is leading it. There will be no "attitude" there as everyone in attendance will be present because of their own free choice. Should be a more pleasant evening for us gun nuts.

In Texas, we have a bill going through our legislature to lower the training hours to between 4 hours and 6 hours. I suppose that is up to the trainer to do the 4 or 6 hours. So, if that passes, one can get a license after a 4 hr. training. We want more people armed.

Oh, please. If this guy had made his class watch TV for 8 hours, you never would have known the difference.

8 hours does seem rather stupidly long to me.

Probably depends on the complexity of the laws in the state, and whether range time is supposed to be included. I could see 8 hours being needed for a total noob in a state with fairly complex laws and range time required.

True. In all my dealing with beavers, I can’t say I was ever in danger of being bitten to death.
