BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Southern Indiana police arrested a man on suspicion of using an ax to smash windows and damage computers at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bloomington on Thursday.

Benjamin D. Curell, 27, of Ellettsville, was arrested on preliminary burglary and criminal mischief charges, The Herald-Times reported...

The man allegedly attributed his actions to his religious beliefs, saying Planned Parenthood employees murder babies...

Anti-abortion group Indiana Right to Life issued a statement condemning the actions of the vandal.

"Indiana Right to Life strongly denounces the violence reported this morning against the Bloomington abortion facility," said Mike Fichter, president and CEO of the organization. "Responding to the violence of abortion with physical violence is not behavior that Indiana Right to Life condones."

Before anyone "jumps" me and thinks I support abortion, the man arrested is a deacon at ClearNote Church of Bloomington, Ind., pastored by Rev. Tim Bayly, former head of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, and a key opponent of gender-neutral translations in the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. Rev. Bayly is also the son of the former head of the David C. Cook Christian book company.

Rev. Bayly has requested prayer and his church obviously will need it. They're already under attack by liberal bloggers, such as this:

http://www.dailykos.com/news/Benjamin%20D.%20Curell

His church has criticized their deacon in a statement here:

http://clearnotebloomington.com/ben-curell-statement

STATEMENT REGARDING THE ARREST OF BENJAMIN CURELL

Yesterday morning the pastors and elders of Clearnote Church learned that Ben Curell, a deacon of the church, had been arrested for vandalizing Planned Parenthood. No one in the church knew about his plans. We are convinced Ben’s actions were not justifiable civil disobedience. The elders and pastors have met with Ben and admonished him.

Throughout history faithful Christians have confessed that from conception children bear the image of God. Therefore, we at Clearnote Church have encouraged and will continue to encourage Christians to peacefully and lawfully witness against the great evil of abortion.

We have counseled Ben to repent and submit to the civil authority that God has placed over us for our good. This authority reflects and points to the judgment of God before Whom we all one day must give an account.

That “civil authority” which they think “God put over” them for their “”own good” countenances the slaughter of innocent children. I’d say taking an ax to a few computers is a fairly mild act.

The church did the right thing. The media will not.

Look, the media has ignored Gosnell. They will blow this up into major proportions...and I won’t be surprised if the clown issues a statement.

Nevertheless, abortions do murder precious innocent children, and that is where the focus should remain.

PING to the Great Reformed Ping List.

This man is a deacon at Rev. Tim Bayly’s church, a former PCA minister who is well-known in Reformed circles for his fight against gender-neutral language in the NIV and for his former position heading up the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood.

Rev. Bayly is requesting prayer and his church is going to need it.

People have to remain calm. It's hard to sit by while these children are being murdered at these centers. Protest peacefully. I know people want things to change. Just pray sincerely as hard as you can for God to help us to help these children by helping their mothers to love their baby regardless.

Just wait for the media to jump ALL over this like they accidentally failed to do when it came to Kermit Gosnell.

Also, this man pretty much sucked at doing anything. He smashed some windows and computers... wooh! scary!

I've never understood that advice. Would you sit by calmly if ax murderers were going through your mother's neighborhood house by house? Would you not feel an obligation to DO SOMETHING??? Why then, should we remain calm and pacified while our babies are being ripped apart? Would Jesus have sat off calmly to the side and allowed this to continue? Is there some aspect of your particular brand of Christian right to life I don't understand?

The crowning irony is that your own tagline suggest civil disobedience. Monastic prayer alone just doesn’t cut it when your’re faced with a situation like this.

The church did the right thing.

The church did the cowardly, wrong thing.

"Forcing us to pay for the slaughter of newborn babes" didn't make the list of the King's crimes in the Declaration. Yet the people took up arms. Would this church have said they were wrong? Of course.

Getting arrested is never smart ,, and this did NOTHING to stop even one abortion, all it did was get the local PP new computers and new equipment paid for by insurance and ultimately his church... if he wanted results simply cutting their phone lines would have been more productive and wouldn’t have entailed entering the building... if he wanted big results he would fundraise to create a pool to pay lawyers out of and develop contacts at the local emergency rooms and trauma centers.

Thanks for posting the article. I think this man is MORALLY RIGHT, but LEGALLY WRONG.

Look what he did to the 'money changers' in the temple.

MORALLY RIGHT, but LEGALLY WRONG.

The "law" is morally wrong. The concept of civil disobedience is to break a lesser law to challenge a greater one. In this case, trespassing and destruction of property is a lesser crime than the legal act of killing the unborn.

History has shown that if you make abortions easy to get (legal, gov’t paid, etc) then there will be more abortions (more people being totally irresponsible).

The big issue that EVERYONE keeps is avoiding is WHY do we have so many UNWANTED pregnancies?

GUN abuse... blame the assault weapon.
DRUG abuse... blame the plants.
ABORTION abuse... blame the baby.
