Police: Man Dies In Explosion On Front Lawn

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Orange County authorities Monday were investigating the death of a 52-year-old man who blew himself up on front lawn of his home.

The incident began Sunday evening when Costa Mesa police officers responded to a residence in the 3100 block of Bermuda Drive after receiving a call from neighbors about a man laying in his front yard.

The unidentified man refused the officers’ help who then left the scene.

At 7:44 p.m., authorities received a second call from the same address regarding an explosion, police said.

“We were in the house when we heard the explosion,” Laurie, a neighbor, said. “We always hear fireworks or whatever and didn’t think much of it until the cops showed up.”

It was unclear if the man committed suicide or if the explosion was accidental.

Neighbors say the victim had a very strong dislike for the government.

Authorities have obtained a search warrant for the property and have found at least three additional explosive device in the home, Sgt. Jerry Hildeman said.

More than a dozen surrounding residences have been evacuated as a precaution.

The explosion is being investigated by the Orange County Bomb Squad, the Huntington Beach Haz Mat Team, the FBI and the Costa Mesa Police Department.

No additional details were released.

Were chickens involved? This reminds me of the Chicken Man in Georgia who blew himself (and his chickens) to kingdom come.

Sounds like he got stuck on his lawn and tried to blow himself loose with dynamite.

That’s sorta reckless.

“Neighbors say the victim had a very strong dislike for the government.” What does this have to do with it? If that was some sort of motive you would think he would target a government facility. Why not just accept that this guy was a looney and blew himself up, oh yeah then they wouldn’t be able to try and tie it to the NRA, Tea Party, Conservatives, etc.

What does this have to do with it?

The media is shaping a narrative incrementally. It starts off with some small "fringe" groups or people. They want to make it seem like those who dislike or distrust the government are kooks. They want to "normalize" the idea that distrust of government is insane.

They're starting small and just peppering it into otherwise unrelated stories. Over time, it will become the primary motives for any criminal activities.

The story made sure they put that in there but refuses to tell us about the monster who killed the babies in PA.

I have a strong distrust for the government. I don't have any suicidal thoughts or ideas of hurting someone. The lines are beginning like they did with the Tea Party and still do. It may had been an accident.. until we know more....

In some odd round about way, I suppose it means that people who have a strong dislike for the govt are likely to have explosives and belong to the tea party. Or something.
