Tea Party Express Considering Latino-Focused Bus Tour

Tea Party Express Considering Latino-Focused Bus Tour

On Monday, Sal Russo, co-founder of Tea Party Express, the political action committee that sponsored Rand Paul's response to President Obama's State of the Union address, said that his group was considering a nationwide bus tour specifically focused on the Latino community. ..."[t]he bus tour is the iconic symbol of the Tea Party. When we’ve gone to some states, like Texas, we’ve had good Hispanic participation. We’re trying to do a [national] bus tour that would be more directed that way.”

*snip*

A final decision on whether Tea Party Express will undertake a nationwide bus tour focused on the Latino community has apparently not yet been made.

At the national level, the Republican Party has seen support for its candidates decline within the Latino/Hispanic community over the past decade.

*snip*

The Tea Party movement, which has always had a tense relationship with the Republican establishment, has a stronger track record of engagement with the Latino community.

I posted this some time ago but I attend an annual function in the Monterey Peninsula every August and as such, a lady who does housekeeping for the lodge where I've stayed for years, speaks little to no English, yet has lived in the U.S. since late 1980s!

Of course, she came to U.S. after the last Amnesty as no borders were closed. She has managed to stay, live (not in the shadows either) and work, get food stamps and other benefits.

Last summer before the election, she indicated that she really liked Obama and wanted him reelected. She also thought he would guarantee her more stuff and she wouldn't have to do anything for it.

The TPExpress can get her on a free bus trip to show her how much Republicans want to help her but she'll only vote for the one who promises her the most stuff!

a plan such as President Eisenhower’s is not possible today... Mexico’s government would have to support it, and at this time, that would not happen... most of all, no one would have the guts to do it...

yes... as you can see, it is not a popular idea with conservatives... people automatically think it's going to be "pandering." and i don't think it has to be that... it cannot be that... already you see the sarcastic comments such as this will make the Mexicans vote R in droves... i do not imagine that will happen with one TP Xpress tour.... the outreach has to be ongoing... (it should have been happening for decades already)...

it is about informing... and the message has to be delivered again and again... will we win over every Mexican vote? no.... will we win over most of the Mexican vote? perhaps not... but we don't need every Mexican... we can aim get a good chunk of the voting block... just a chunk... that would be valuable... and it could be for generations... and it will not happen over night... and it may not happen by the next election... but we ought to take the first steps ASAP... i see it as being a long, arduous journey...

i also think we ought to reach out with black Americans...

Exactly with that kind of attitude the Republicans (true conservative) will never get a foothold with the Hispanics like that. What many do not realize about getting free benefits is that they come from a Country that is socialistic, so what were they expecting? That is all they know. That is the reason it is important to get the message across with them to show them there is a better option than the Democrap who are using them to keep them in power and trample over rights. I understand Mark Levin is also will be having his book translated and that is just one of many ways to get the message across. I am glad for the Tea Party making the move and get the message of freedom to them.

Thanks for taking the time to compose a response. It does look like a uphill battle any way you slice it.

“Sounds like Tea Party Amnesty”

Wow. Syncro, divide and conquer, identity politics is what the left and Grover Norquist does.

I’m in the wrong place. And it looks like the entire ‘tea party’ is compromised. I’m outta here. I want immigrants to be part of this country, not singled out for special treatment or like they’re too dumb to be an American without being pandered to. Imo, the actions of this ‘tea party’ to pander like our enemy does is RACIST.

This isn’t a discussion, I’m done and so is this country when even ‘conservatives’ are willing to sell off ethnicities for votes...which you will NEVER get. But it must make ya feel good, so you go ahead.

We do need to reach out to our Spanish speaking friends. But we shouldn’t pander, we don’t need to.

RE :”We do need to reach out to our Spanish speaking friends. But we shouldn’t pander, we don’t need to”

I have mixed feelings about this.

The way it almost always goes and we saw this with Rand Paul is a R addresses a Hispanic group and cherry picks the issues he talks about, ones that polls well with the group, and don't talk about the ones that don't polls well even though there are many more of them. (with Hispanics its taxing and spending and anti-poverty programs and Obama-care.)

This rarely works because in the end the Dems will force them to answer on the second set.

yes--as i stated earlier, it cannot be about pandering... they already get that from the liberals... plus, it's not conservative... and what we want to share is the conservative message... again and again and again...

If that is concerning me, it's quite a misdirection.

First, I doubt you are "out of here" and I thought you had a better grasp of what the TPM is all about. Instead you broad-brush it.

Hey, let’s balkanize the Tea Party!

Isn’t the Tea Party supposed to be about Americans fighting for America? This seems like it would only serve to dilute the message and weaken the overall cohesiveness of the group.

Not latinamericans, asianamericans, afroamericans, arabamericans, panarabamericans, LBGTamericans, or any of that other divisive nonsense.

Are they trying to be more inclusive? How does labeling people achieve this?

That’s what the left does. They apply all sorts of labels to people, especially people they don’t agree with. I’ve had it with all these labels!

New Senate Immigration Amnesty Plan Bears Union Imprint
NLPC ^ | April 18, 2013 | Carl Horowitz

The main feature of the 844-page bill is that it would allow millions of illegal immigrants to apply for legal residency and eventual citizenship. Significantly, the bill bears a strong union influence. And labor officials aren't bashful about it. Ana Avendano, AFL-CIO director of immigration, declared last week: "Politicians know that if they stand in the way of citizenship we will steamroller them." The bill, worked out in secret by a bipartisan group of senators known as the "Gang of Eight," amounts to getting rolled over.

Some context is necessary. The United States, more than ever, is an international resettlement destination. According to the Census Bureau, our immigrant population, naturalized and otherwise (including the illegal portion), experienced a net increase during 2000-2010 from 31.1 million to 40.0 million. By 2010, nearly 13 percent of the nation's population consisted of first-generation immigrants, the highest share in a decennial year since 1920. California registered the highest state share at 27.2 percent. These figures, it should be emphasized, don't include the roughly 400,000 "birthright citizenship" children born to illegal immigrant parents on our soil each year. During 2000-10, about 13.9 million newcomers came here legally. Mexico and Asia each accounted for more than 4 million of them, while Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and "other" each sent slightly more than one million.

Complete thread at link in title.

I'm a bit surprised you bought into the demonization of me because of an announcement that I posted my friend.

More "Brute"ilizing from Eu tu? Killing the messenger doesn't further the conservative cause.

I was not demonizing you FRiend. I am just surprised, well shocked, the TPE would pander to anyone.

I feel a little back stabbed because you know I love and trust my TPE. =(

I see, thank you for the response.

I let slide the fact that usually when someone posts to the #1 box they are commenting on the position of the article, not the person that posted it.

Mea culpa my friend...

A low level semi anti-freeper has been posting a link to this thread and making comments about me and the TPX in a knee jerk fashion on several other threads without pinging me as she jumps from band wagon to band wagon.

No I didn't ping her, measure for measure/like for like/quid pro quo ya know...    : > )

I think I know who you mean, judging from the responses.

You and I are all good.

But may I ask you for a favor? Could you please advise them not to do this, if you haven’t so already?

Do you believe it is a good idea?

I wouldn’t ping her either!
