The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obamas agenda Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal that would have expanded background checks on gun sales. It failed by a vote of 54-46, short of the necessary 60. A handful of Democrats voted against it and only four Republicans supported the measure backed by the White House. The vote effectively halted gun control in the upper chamber.

I remember when his father was CINCPAC. He was shot down and we in SF did not think much except his father was this.
Well, I never heard that McCain ever sold anyone out. I am serious. He and his wife have raised some kids that they should be admired. I question if McCain should not RETIRE?
Can’t they just attach it to a highway or what ever bill and pass it?
That would be great. Name a building after the man. The end.
McPain looked around, and Lovable Lindsey was not there!
He's done.
One of the problems some people experience as they age is the loss of mental capacity. Compounding the issue is that they don’t recognize what’s happening to them. IMO John McCain needs to retire while some of his dignity is still intact.
This page has the Senate vote information. They have gradually posted the roll calls for each amendment (votes #97 to #103) since Wednesday evening. As of now there is no vote shown for the bill S.649 itself.

“IMO John McCain needs to retire while some of his dignity is still intact.”
Dignity? This man has long ago lost any semblance of dignity. But for people’s respect for his military service. he’d be sitting on a porch somewhere yelling at kids to get off of his lawn...
Yeah, it pretty much is. This amendment was supposed to be the savior, the amendment that could bring together enough votes for the bill to pass. And it failed.
I want this bill to be DEAD DEAD DEAD!
You know better than that. For now it is, but the Dems never let anything die. They will just put it aside until the next opportunity arises. And the one after that. And the one after that. Until they get it done, and they don’t care how long it takes. You and I may be long dead, but they will keep bringing it back.
Their best opportunity will be when they retake the House and maintain control of the Senate after the 2014 elections.
Dignity? This man has long ago lost any semblance of dignity.”
I was trying to be verbally kind - up to a point.
No "overhaul" will even be attempted. Now that this issue is virtually off the table, Obama and his minions will use the defeat for bashing Republicans and move on to the next (immigration) issue. Obama wanted the issue, not a solution - just like immigration. This whole "get it done now" by Obama and other dems is nothing but kabuki theater which will be used to attack Republican next election cycle.
That explains it, in detail.
FUJM!!! FUPT!!! FUMK!!! FUSC!!!
I am still disgusted to have to add Toomey to this list. If this becomes a habit with him.......
3 rats facing reelection in 2014 in GOP states voted no (AK AR, MT), along with the new rat Heidi in ND. (and Reid for procedural reason’s, he’s for the amendment of course)
The Senate also rejected a good amendment by Senator Richard Burr 56-44.
” Devastating blow to President Obamas agenda PING!
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy :) “
AKA, the “Whinney Little Bitch”
I’ll savor the moment, but we need to regroup and get back to the grim business at hand - which is standing against their Plan Bravo, Plan Charlie, Plan Delta, Plan Echo....etc.
They’ll be back.
“Thank you” to the GOP and a couple of Dems for showing some manhood for once. Even if it IS only because of re-election for some of them; they did the right thing.
I’ll take whatever victory we get.
