MIT: Shooter On Loose; Officer Down
Atlantic Wire ^ | 18 April 2013

Posted on 04/18/2013 8:22:45 PM PDT by NautiNurse

MIT issued an emergency alert at 10:48 on Thursday night reporting shots fired on the university campus. The school newspaper reports, "Shots fired near 32 Vassar St (Stata Center), police officer down. Please stay inside." That report is backed up by CBS News's Bonney Kapp who reports hearing "officer down" on the police scanner just before the MIT alert went out. For now, details are scarce, but the suspect is on the loose and considered armed and extremely dangerous.

How in the world did two perps haul and load all of the pipe and pressure cooker bombs and weapons into a hijacked vehicle--after robbing a convenience store and killing a cop? Bombs which were subsequently tossed out of the vehicle during the ensuing police chase?

That is a really good question, FRiend. I don't know. I admit that part of the saga is where I'm most fuzzy.

I just learned - via another FR post - that the #2 perp went to an ATM and got $800 from the carjack victim's account... first I had heard about that.

I heard they stopped at three ATM, but only one withdrawal was successful.

If we go back to your pic post #17 in this thread, I think we have our answer. He was not found in his car, he was lying dead in the street. Perhaps he was shot in his car, but he was not found there.

I could not look at it that night (just too timid) but did this morning and he bleed out right at that spot. The amount of blood on street tells the story.

What are your thoughts?

Interesting question. Did they have the stuff in more backpacks? Did they have help?

The MIT officer was shot point blank, they said his gun was still in the holster.

The story is that they did go to 3 different ATM’s.

Heard the theory that their getaway people failed to show up, which makes some sense.

There are definately more questions than answers here.

I still want to know more about the naked guy, they never talk about him anymore. Was he really just a poor sap who was at the wrong place at the wrong time?

And yes, I want to know who the car jacking victim is, what is the true story on that? Escaped vs let go -

Every manhunt map I've seen shows the MIT officer was shot on the south portion of campus somewhat near the river. This coincides with the report that a 911 call at 10:25PM came in from a grad student in Bldg 76 (near the river).

However, multiple stories indicate Officer Collier was found dead in his vehicle near the location also described as the Mercedes carjacking.

Did the perps steal the MIT police car with mortally wounded Officer Collier in it and drive to the Stata Building location near Main and Vassar Sts, where they carjacked the Mercedes SUV?

Thank you for taking the time to locate those threads! I’ll be re-reading them all now. From a quick look, it seems that the one with the live reports from the guy in his apartment across the street is MIA. That thread, IIRC, started before there was any media report of the hostage crisis.

I read a story this morning about the poor chap who was thoroughly humiliated, forced to strip and lie face down in the road. It was definitely a case of wrong place, wrong time when LEO were stressed in the heat of the manhunt.

The naked guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. (He may have given the LEO some lip and...)

yes... during the shoot out you can see that at least one of them was photographed by the guy in the apartment who witnessed the shoot out. In the photograph you can see one of them wearing a backpack. It is huge. If I run across the photo I will post it.

Police are saying they shot the MIT cop in cold blood. They were carrying the backpacks with them at that time. Were they going to plant the bombs at the MIT? Did the MIT cop recognize them as the 2 bombers from the photos that were just released hours earlier?

my understanding is they did not rob the 7-11, that was an early report and was false. They were in the 7-11 but it was said they paid cash for what they bought.

Looking at the map posted in #2556, how did the perps get from point #2 to point #3 in less than 5 minutes while lugging huge backpacks full of explosives?

The younger kid picked up a auto from a body shop the day after the bombing. The body shop reported this. Maybe they had that body shop picked up auto with them. My guess is they were on campus with the big backpacks when the MIT cop stopped them. Maybe the got back into the body shop picked up auto they had with them and decided they better dump it and hi-jacked the Mercedes SUV.

Note.. the body shop auto was not done and was missing a bumper from it per the body shop owner. Kid still insisted he needed it and did not care it was not ready. They gave it to him unfinished.

if you can recal the name of the guy that was up in his apt over the street shootout I can probably find the backpack photo. His last name started with a K something like Kitz____.

Sorry that might be a LEO in pix... there is a pix out there of the hi-jacked car with many backpacks laying on the ground but that does not answer your question.

I wonder where LEO located that vehicle. I seem to recall cops located the older brother’s car too. Don’t know where.
