Gov. Chris Christie on Friday unveiled a multi-faceted plan to curb gun violence in New Jersey that includes expanding government-funded mental health treatment, requiring parental sign-off before children can buy or rent violent video games, and mandating that ID presented by would-be gun-owners is government-issued.
The Republicans plan also includes a ban on the sale of Barrett .50-caliber semi-automatic sniper rifles, bail reforms that would make it harder for people suspected of violent gun crimes to be released, and provisions to make it easier for courts and health care professionals to involuntarily commit people they consider violent to a psychiatric hospital.
The plan does not address classroom security or propose stricter limits on the capacity of ammunition magazines, which in New Jersey stands at 15 rounds.

As a guy who lives here and has to deal with the nonsense of New Jersey gun laws, it could have been a LOT worse. I know the radical extreme bills the maniac Democrats in Trenton have been introducing. Christie’s proposals are mild - very mild. On the face of what I see, I can live with them until I can afford to escape from here.
Political dynamics in this state are such that the Democrats control the Legislature as they control the masses of urban “minority” voters - mainly Democrat - in Mercer, Camden, Essex, Middlesex, Hudson, Passaic and Union County.
If Christie doesn’t veto those bills they are pushing and this indicates he will, New Jersey would become Washington D.C. on a massive scale.
Clearly he is trying to position himself for a Presidential run and clearly he recognizes our power on the National Stage.
If anyone is interested in what those maniac Trenton Democrats ARE trying to present, I’ll be more than willing to enlighten them.
Its merely a sop to the Democrats. In reality, how many people own one? Its not that I support such a ban - clearly its nonsense. But it is a political sop.
You have to realize that in this benighted state, even Republicans are often anti-gun. I wish we had Wyoming’s gun laws or even Pennsylvania’s, but the reality is we don’t and probably never will, which is why I want to get the hell out of here.
Some of the more onerous things the Dems were proposing were magazine bans like Cuomo’s, the right to enter your home to see that your guns are secure, requiring periodic mental health checks, renewals of firearms purchasers permits periodically, on and on and on.
Like I said, this APPEARS milder than ANYTHING being proposed.
Ha! Not a one.
It is not a matter of how many people have been shot with the Barrett .50-caliber, but who the potential targets could be. This sniper rifle could be zeroed in from several blocks away at a speaker on an elevated platform, a potential assassination, and this prospect frightens many of our government officials to the core.
Do they have statistics which give the number of crimes that involve guns as committed by, and committed upon, Blacks, Whites and Latinos?
There stuck in the back of the Rubio for Prez bus.
The mental health portion is where the focus needs to be.
The libs/ACLU turned out the mental patients on the public.
More RINO horse sh*t from Christie.
What an a$$hole. Nothing in his “plan” will stop violence.

What about the new S&W 50 caliber pistol? I think that politicians get together a focus group and look for bullet points that make it sound like theyre leaders. Who, though, is Christie trying to appeal to? Are there Christie Democrats who want a fat liberal Republican over a liberal Democrat? Are there Republicans who just want a little bit of common sense infringement on their Constitutional rights?
Elites are especially afraid of the Barrett since a .50 can punch through an armored limo, and a sniper can hit a VIP from well outside his security perimeter. They are not trying to protect us, they are trying to protect themselves.
Who, you ask, is Christie trying to appeal to?
The Newsies. They LUUUUUUV any and all “gun control”. That’s my call. Democrats nor Republicans have much reason to follow him. But if he can get a halfway decent press...
Then there might be hope for him, yet.
And it could be merely a defensive political posture. Just to keep his bona fides with the Newsies, so he won’t be lumped in with that horrible Ted Cruz/Rand Paul type of Republican...
So can the nearest hunting rifle. This is the feeding the crocodile so you will be eaten last strategy.
I think zero people have been shot with that rifle. It must be a manhood thing with liberals.
I had a chance to buy one before they were banned, but at 3,000 dollars I couldn’t justify buying it.
The New Joisey mafia, and the street thugs, are sure going to abide by these new gun laws.
True.
But we need to be CAREFUL there - VERY CAREFUL.
One of the routes the anti-gunners are considering is requiring periodic mental health check-ups by a shrink - most of whom are anti-gun, have mental problems themselves, and are prone to believe mental problems are relativistic, e.g EVERYBODY has them.
It will cause an invasion of privacy by politically motivated doctors to disarm people who they know pose no threat. It will be used to disarm veterans who have been treated for PTSD, and will cause people not to seek help for fear of losing their Constitutional rights. The vast majority of those who need help are in no way homicidal. The left will keep making it easier and easier for a person to be disarmed this way. This is way too easy for the left to abuse, and we already know they will try.

If I didn’t live in Jersey and had the cash, I would buy one.
But I would rather have a Parker-Hale Muzzle-loading .45 Whitworth rifle - one made in Britain, not Italy.
“and mandating that ID presented by would-be gun-owners is government-issued.”
That’s already the case. You need a NJ FID card for purchases and the address on the card has to match your drivers license to be a valid. Why is another law needed?
