THERE ARE NEEDS, AND THEN THERE ARE NEEDS

"The bird does not sing because he has an answer;
he sings because he has a song."

Old Chinese Proverb

Peppermint Patty, of Peanuts cartoon fame, can be impatient at times. You Peanuts fans may recall one of those times. School was about to begin, and Peppermint Patty went shopping. She entered the store, and proceeded directly to the counter, and said, "Sir, I need some school supplies some pencils, some paper, a loose-leaf binder, and some answers. I need a lot of answers."

Most of you have probably encountered someone who continually experiences difficulty in distinguishing NEEDS from WANTS. Conventional wisdom: we need food, air, water and shelter to survive; however, we do not need exotic foods, Caribbean trade wind breezes, Mountain spring water and a castle nestled in the hillsides of Scotland in order to survive. The massive explosion of commercialism causes great difficulties for many adults....those who talk about wants as though they are needs. Hmmmmmm, no wonder so many young people are confused.

It is okay, however, to be confused. It is okay to not have all of the answers. More to the point, it is human to not have all of the answers. In light of the human predicament, our greatest need may be what we earnestly want...to be at peace within ourselves, unfettered by all of the trappings of actions and titles that signify to many that we truly are persons of worth.

It is okay to simply be. Consider the bird who sings simply because she has a song.

Captain Lorenzo C. York, CHC, USN

Deadlines! Deadlines! Gainfully employed is always a good thing, and OT is nice.

Maybe your OT time schedule will help with the commute. d:o)

Good evening, Kathy, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

No mugging for me tonight unless one sneaks up on me.

I've too been mugged at the computer several times. I know because of the computer key tattoos on my face.

Is that how you found out that you'd been mugged at the computer?

LOL!

The Canteen opened its doors October 7, 2001.

I signed up on FReeRepublic November 28, 1997. I was on vacation and using my hosts computer. I could read every article, but never got up the nerve to post a reply until a couple months after the Canteen opened.

Then I had to learn some HTML....

From one who has much less seniority here - thank you, Kathy and The Mayor, for keeping the Faith and standing the Watch these many years!

Just a quick shop today Kathy. Some beautiful strawberries on an amazing sale so I picked up eight pounds to can some preserves & some to freeze for my smoothies.

I do have to go to Target tomorrow & get a couple of things but won’t big shop again until coupons & sales collide! :)

Did you run errands today? Snow is all melted off?

Learn HTML.... I remember those days, I had a cheat sheet open all the time until I got the hang of it. I joined in 2000 and was very cautious about posting. Ya didn’t mess with Freepers they would tear you apart back then, well they ctill do at times but not me.

To: Kathy in Alaska; ConorMacNessa; All
Kathy and Conor; if you use a crock pot (slow cooker), I recommend this recipe for shredded Mexican chicken:

3 cans Rotel Tomatoes with green chili
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 pkt. of Taco seasoning

Put in crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours.

After cooking, it shreds as soon as you put a fork in the pot.

Great for enchiladas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, taco salad, or whatever.
My daughter fixes this every time she has company,
and sets out taco shells, tortillas, and sour cream, shredded cheese, olives, tomatoes,
shredded lettuce, chopped onions, salsa, guacamole, and whatever you like on mexican food.
She never has any left over - and is ALWAYS asked for the recipe.

For one or two people, use one chicken breast, one can Rotel, and not quite a half of the packet of taco seasoning. You will love this - guaranteed.
