BOSTON — It was a blow the immigrant boxer could not withstand: after capturing his second consecutive title as the Golden Gloves heavyweight champion of New England in 2010, Tamerlan Anzorovich Tsarnaev, 23, was barred from the national Tournament of Champions because he was not a United States citizen.
The cocksure fighter, a flamboyant dresser partial to white fur and snakeskin, had been looking forward to redeeming the loss he suffered the previous year in the first round, when the judges awarded his opponent the decision, drawing boos from spectators who considered Mr. Tsarnaev dominant.
From one year to the next, though, the tournament rules had changed, disqualifying legal permanent residents — not only Mr. Tsarnaev, who was Soviet-born of Chechen and Dagestani heritage, but several other New England contenders, too. His aspirations frustrated, he dropped out of boxing competition entirely, and his life veered in a completely different direction.
Mr. Tsarnaev portrayed his quitting as a reflection of the sport’s incompatibility with his growing devotion to Islam. But as dozens of interviews with friends, acquaintances and relatives from Cambridge, Mass., to Dagestan showed, that devotion, and the suspected radicalization that accompanied it, was a path he followed most avidly only after his more secular dreams were dashed in 2010 and he was left adrift.

No, he was eligible for citizenship July 19, 2008 but for some reason didn’t follow through after getting his legal permenant residency. He was charged with beating his girlfriend May 2009 and the case was dismissed in 2010 making him eligible when the boxing rules changed... if he’d followed through with his citizenship two years before. These libs will twist the story every which way to take the blame off these two.

April 2009 - Big T’s wrestling magazine article. Wants to represent US in Olympics and become naturalized US citizen although he doesn’t have any friends and doesn’t understand Americans. Boxing club president stated he was an underachiever because he did not dedicate himself to the proper training regimen.

Thanks, I’d been looking for the link to the wish list. Yeah, he was off the deep end long before the boxing rule change.
What gives me fits is that the public is continually told by the medias, electronic and paper, that these are just a few extremists. My take is that all Muslims who live by the Koran are potentially extremists at sometime and anywhere , male and female,young and old. Our Founders did not cater to Muslims and their experience gave them reason. When Obama first came out about Muslim’s long history of contributions to the USA I had a strong suspicion that he was not only a barker for Islam but especially for himself. This guy is like my reversible outdoor clothing when it comes to duplicity.
I think one of the (hundreds) of differences between 1800s America and today, is that then, if someone murdered people in a terrorist act, they were tried, convicted and hanged. Nobody cared why you did it. Society only cared, “innocent or guilty?” and then acted pragmatically upon the result. No dragging things out for years, psychoanalyzing everything, feeling sorry for the wicked person instead of putting the focus on getting criminals off the streets and enacting justice. After all, isn’t one of the main purposes of government to punish the criminal and remove him from society (either by jail or death?)
