Joe Manchin: We are “absolutely” going to try for another gun-control vote

The Senate's proposed gun-control bill crashed and burned earlier this month, and Majority Leader Harry Reid signaled that he was going to put the issue on the political shelf where it would presumably start to gather dust — but that might not be the case after all. Senator Manchin and Toomey revealed last week that they're going to keep looking for ways to strengthen Senate support for the measures, and Machin confirmed that he's optimistc that he can fix their mistakes from the last go-around and introduce a background check-centric, cleaner version of the bill:

Another senator this week also suggested that perhaps Harry Reid’s shelving of gun-control legislation isn’t so indefinite after all, via The Hill:

Although legislation central to President Obama’s effort to reduce gun violence was blocked this month in the upper chamber, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) said this week that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has told House gun control advocates that the legislation will resurface before 2014.

“Reid had already told us [last week] that they were definitely going to bring it back up again,” McCarthy said Friday. “We don’t know when that time will be, but he said before the end of the year.” …

“We do know that a number of senators have been reaching out to our workforce group, and they were going ahead, they’re going to tweak it, they’re going to see, you know, if they can work with some of the other members who voted ‘no,’” McCarthy said.

I would think that, if they’re really going to try this again, they’d definitely want to do it sooner than later so that they have ample time to cleanse voters’ palates before the midterms next November — but convincing the four Democratic senators who voted against the measure as well as finding one more Republican to go along with it still seems like a long shot.

liberals always think te reason their crap legislation fails is because they weren’t clear enough. never because what they are advocating is just wrong, and more people are against them, than for them.

when our stuff succeeds we’re told we can’t do it because of tyranny of the majority, and it gets tossed into court by half a dozen libtard legal groups.

No, he will break out his rifle again to show how pro-gun he is and the voters will fall for it.

What a POS. At least Toomey is no longer looking to do this (at least from his public comments).

They are going to see if any of the NO votes could be bribed.

Or “The next Newtown is inevitable if we don’t act.... This is just our reality,” Everitt said. “Those things can help inform debate and galvanize people to act.”

(Ref: "Round Two for Gun Control May Take a ‘Next Newtown’")

Pro Gun control crowd breathlessly waiting for the next one, even though they admit it won't prevent Newtown or another Newtown (too lazy right now to list all the lawmakers who said this).

Why not? The NRA is stupid enough to fall for Harry Reid's pro-gun schtick.

In fact, if Manchin votes for a little taxpayer pork (like Harry), perhaps a government-funded gun range, I fully expect the NRA to give him an "A" rating in exchange for his donation of other people's money.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

EACH US SENATOR TAKES THE ABOVE OATH OF OFFICE. Any U.S. Senator who fails to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States, MUST be held accountable — be should be impeached and subsequently removed from serving in Office.

We need to use this argument in any and all cases where anti-2nd Amendment legislation is introduced.

This is no surprise, and we need to remember: They Will Not Stop.

Liberals are nothing, if not relentless. When I saw the famous video clip of Bob Hope calling Democrats “zombies” it was funny, but there is a lot of truth in it that I didn’t recognize at the time. Liberalism is undead, it is self-animating, and it keeps coming.

I often compare conservatism to the Dutch boy sticking his fingers in the dike to keep the dike from crumbling until help arrives. Liberalism is the relentless and solid wall of pressure trying to get through.

Liberalism is like a one-way ratchet, once you give up territory, you never get it back (or very rarely). Liberals can sleep, go to the movies, do whatever it is that liberals do, and then come back and begin attacking again.

Conservatives must man the ramparts, we must always have our finger in the dike. If we relax, we give up territory we never get back. We always have to be on.

That is why this is no surprise, they will try it again, and again, and again.
