Boy Scouts Council in Texas Votes to Maintain Ban on Openly Gay Members

Boy Scouts officials in Houston, Texas, voted Monday to maintain the organization's policies that bar openly gay youth who seek to participate in troop activities.

The Board of Directors of the Sam Houston Area Council voted to support the current membership policy of the Boy Scouts of America, which "does not proactively inquire about the sexual orientation of employees, volunteers, or members, but does not grant membership to individuals who are open or avowed homosexuals or who engage in behavior that would become a distraction to the mission of the BSA," the council said in a statement.

The Houston-area council's vote followed an extensive survey of parents, adult leaders, chartered partners and financial partners, who, by a 75 percent majority, support maintaining the Boy Scouts national policy for membership standards, and oppose a proposed resolution that would lift the ban on openly gay members. Officials from the council said their survey results match the outcomes from an independent survey of their member parents and leaders that was conducted by the BSA.

Nationwide, the BSA's own official "Voice of the Scout" survey shows respondents support the current ban on openly homosexual members and leaders, 61 percent to 34 percent. Additionally, 72 percent of chartered organizations and 61 percent of Boy Scout parents support the current policy.

“61 percent of Boy Scout parents support the current policy”

I guess the other 39% want their kids to get raped.

I’m going to take this as a good sign for the national council vote in coming weeks. If this comes about to retain the current policy, the fall out on the corporate funding side is going to be tough to overcome.

I, for one, would like to see the results of responses from just the parents of Scouts. The others may have an opinion but they should not have a vote since they have no skin (child) in the game.

My grandson’s Troop just completed a fundraiser a couple of months ago. Income was down but we concluded it was so because of two reasons. Personal income is down. The Scoutmaster had some local companies tell him they wanted to wait to donate until the current issue is resolved because they will not contribute if gays are allowed. He does have some reasonably substantial pledges if the organization remains exactly like it is now.

Another group I belong to also had a fundraiser last month and our income was down. Again we concluded that it has more to do with a decrease in discretionary income right now.

We’re proud of you, Houston. Look out for the intolerant homosexual lobby that will revile you and persecute you for your good sense.

This is a private organization, and it should have the right of associating with whomever it pleases.

It is because of the 24/7 brainwashing and Homomafia silencing all dissent about their vile lifestyle and the brainwashing in schools forcing little boys to take “Pride” in sodomy and teaching that it is “genetic” (a lie)——The conditioning has been going on for over 20 years.

Get your kids out of public schools and throw out the TV-—it will “warp” their worldview-—they will grow up “thinking” like Afghani men-—who grew up in harems thinking unnatural acts are normal. They can never be “Rational”-—ever or look at men and women in a Reasoned way-—they are warped forever.

That's exactly what they are requesting.

“I guess the other 39% want their kids to get raped.”

That’s the only conclusion you can come to, I’m afraid.

I was looking at my church bulletin and right next to each other were two advertisements.

One was congratulating the Boy Scouts troop for an award they had received and the other one right next to it was for a Safe Environment Clearance required by everyone working at the church so that children will be safe.

I thought if the BSA had decided otherwise, man it would just be a universal mess with untold repercussions.

Our last GOP presidential candidate has been for homosexualizing the Boy Scouts and it’s leaders for almost 20 years that we know of.

Membership Standards Study Initiative Executive Summary
Parents Study Group and Leaders Study Group

The Parents Study Group was charged with listening to the voice of parents and leaders, including parents who currently do not have youth in the program. Research on parents was conducted by North Star Opinion Research on parents of boys younger than 18—both members and nonmembers.

• The research finds a significant shift in attitudes regarding the BSA policy on homosexuality.
• Three years ago, parents supported the current BSA policy by a wide margin—58 percent to 29 percent. Today, parents oppose the policy by a 45 percent to 42 percent margin.
• Three years ago, 57 percent of parents of current Scouts supported the policy. Today, only 48 percent of parents of current Scouts support the policy.

The BSA’s Voice of the Scout Membership Standards Survey was sent to more than 1 million adult members, with over 200,000 respondents. The survey found:

• Respondents support the current policy by a 61 percent to 34 percent margin.
• Support for the current policy is higher at different program and volunteer levels in the organization:
o 50 percent of Cub Scout parents support it; 45 percent of Cub Scout parents oppose.
o 61 percent of Boy Scout parents support it.
o 62 percent of unit leaders support it.
o 64 percent of council and district volunteers support it.
o 72 percent of chartered organizations support it.

June 10, 2011
“Sexual Identity, Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health-Risk Behaviors Among Students in Grades 9–12 — Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance, Selected Sites, United States, 2001–2009”

Conclusion:
Compared with (heterosexual) students who are not sexual minorities (i.e., LGBTQ), a disproportionate number of sexual minority students engage in a wide range of health-risk behaviors. Consequently, to enable documentation of these disparities and assessment of the impact of public health and school health policies and practices designed to decrease these disparities, it is important to include questions on sexual identity and on sex of sexual contacts on surveys that monitor health-risk behaviors and selected health outcomes among high school students in states and large urban school districts. Furthermore, because sexual minority students represent a relatively small proportion of all students, use of large, population-based samples of students is important for obtaining the most generalizable and highest quality data on which to base policy and programmatic decisions (8,27). In 2009, only 10 states and 7 large urban school districts added questions about sexual identity, sex of sexual contacts, or both to their YRBS questionnaire. Additional support for these questions within the remaining states and large urban school districts conducting YRBSs is necessary to increase knowledge about the health-risk behaviors of sexual minority youths.

Thanks for the response and reference info. The difference in percentages between parents of Cubs versus BS parents really surprises me. Wonder how much of it is because parents of Cub Scouts are just beginning their participation and not necessarily “into” the entire program. There little kids are also playing co-ed T-ball, soccer, swimming, etc.

Parents of Boy Scouts who have been involved for an extended period of time are totally committed and, if they choose to participate in everything going on with just the Scouts in their son’s quest for Eagle Scout have little time for anything else.

My first grandson was also in BSA but he is ten years older than the one going through the program now. I have certainly noticed a major change in the attitude toward social issues when comparing parents from ten years ago to now. I keep hoping the pendulum will begin to swing back but it certainly doesn’t appear to be happening.

There is a pattern of attempts to breakdown every culturally moral fiber in American society. At least Houston, Texas holds the line.
