--snip- To understand how big of a deal this is, you need to understand that Apple, the world’s most profitable technology company, works through a large and complicated array of offshore companies to hold its taxable profits overseas.

By creating subsidiaries in tax havens like Ireland, Luxembourg, the British Virgin Islands and the Netherlands, the company saves billions in taxes.

One big problem: the per share price of Apple is so high that it's hard for many smaller investors to buy it in the usual amounts of 100 shares. Maybe there is some reason that they let the per share price go so high without a stock split.

There is no problem in buying small lots, even one share, or even fractional shares. It's just more economical to buy larger lots than a single share when you pay a fixed brokerage fee.

“They are going to buy back stock.”

Yes, I can see that now. And paying big dividends too. Because they have NO idea at all how to turn that cash into products with big ROIs. So management has now turned to keeping stockholders happy for a bit longer. So the board, CEO, and execs can keep their jobs just a little bit longer as well. This looks to me like another BIG sign that Steve Jobs WAS Apple, and now that he’s gone, Apple will NEVER be the company it was under Jobs.

After reading Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs, it was evident to me that the entire company was essentially a one man show, and that the company was designed SOLELY to implement Steve’s good ideas and to try and check his worst ones. With Steve gone, I think we can expect Apple to turn into Microsoft or HP. It’ll probably take 3 years before that’s evident to its “investors”, because for most of that time they’ll be quite happy with their big dividends and artificial share price increases.

The cheap bast@rds at Apple (make that cheap liberal bast@rds) cannot bring those earnings home to America without paying US taxes on them. Boo hoo hoo. They should pay a decent tax rate or let that stash get moldy and turn to dust, I could care less

Apple makes all its stuff outside of America anyways. No one is stopping those cheap bast@rds from building their own chip plant or assembly plant in China, Vietnam or India since they have so many geniuses on staff there why not? Answer is that Apple prefers to contract out what it needs to be made by Chinese slave labor so it cannot be blamed or protested by its own lefty audience. Better for Foxconn to be blamed so the cheap bast@rds contract out to Foxconn

You should check out the man who runs Samsung and has done so for years. Samsung ascent to greatness, 20 years all I knew about Samsung was cheap TVs while Apple was already a cool and established company
