Posted on 05/07/2013 1:21:33 PM PDT by jazusamo
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee took to the House floor Monday night and implied that the right to health care and education exists in the Constitution.
Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, also made the case that the moral authority for such services is also derived from the Declaration of Independence.
One might argue that education and health care fall into those provisions of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, she said.

Absolutely dumb as a bag of hammers. Sooo, what’s that make her constituents who keep voting for her?
Yeah, if you pay for it.
Constitution implies a right to...
***but when the constitution is EXPLICIT in the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, well, let’s just talk about something else.
Two peas in a pod.
“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” are provisions in the Constitution? *sigh* And there will be millions out there who agree with her.
Pursuit of happiness could mean that I get a pony, a bucket of ice cream each day, free cable TV, and a week at a Fort Lauderdale beach-front motel.
Well it clearly states the right to gun ownership... Shall NOT be infringed. No interpretation required Ms Lee
And free trips to Mars to see the flag Neil Armstrong put there.
Leftists seem to not understand that part.
Seems if it’s a right, it’s gotta be paid for by someone else.
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed
Democrats: There is no constitutional right to bear arms! That's a mistake!
Constitution on health care, education:
Democrats: It right there! Can't you read it!
I want a dune buggy! In which to pursue my happiness!
“.. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Other People’s money.”
Don’t give them ideas, they already get free obamaphones.
Well the libs ought to be glad that The Constitution also protects even idiots rights to free speech. Sorry self-entitlements that other people have to pay for is not mentioned anywhere in it, Lee.
-- James Madison, the father of the United States Constitution
I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.
-- James Madison, the father of the United States Constitution
Yup. We also have a right to Big Meals with toy and super-sized fries and sodas at MickieD’s assuming we can pay for it and the government doesn’t unconstitutionally ban them.
...and they would be WRONG.
Anything could be implied. But does it say the Taxpayer shall furnish it?
I think the Liberals have misconstrued basic rights with entitlements.
And free cheese
Not only "out there", but right here at FR as so many replies have already shown
I don’t see any replies that agree with her at all.
You have the right to free speech but I’m not required to listen. You have the right to bear arms but I don’t have to buy you a glock. You have the right to be free from unreasonable search but I’m not required to buy you a deadbolt lock.
Rights are things you can do, not something involving the services of a third party. That party has the right not to do those things. There is no right to another man’s work.
I need a Gulfstream G-IV to be happy...
So I guess the Constitution guarantees such for me?
Send the bill to Ms. Lee, since this is her idea.
Think about it for a moment.
I’m NOT saying what you THINK I’m saying.
Has she found the flag that our astronauts planted on Mars? /s
Sheila Lee? If I imply yur an idiot, would I be lying?
To the headline: only on Mars where man walked.
She is the stupid person from Texas we have here. Will someone else take her for a while? I cannot believe that we do not mandate simple IQ test for elected officials, but then none of the current crop would be there.
Well you got 1 out of three! Life? Naa (see: abortion). Liberty? Naa (see: too many to list). Pursuit of other people’s money. OH YEA!
So what are you saying?
Sooo, whats that make her constituents who keep voting for her?”
You could easily figure out the answer to that question by just driving through her District. A few years ago there was a White guy running for Mayor who, among other things, pledged to make City Hall more efficient. One of the City employees who was interviewed said she wasn’t voting for him because her Representative (Lee) told her that that meant her job would be gone if he was elected and SJL was the only one who really cared about the people in their District.
Houston has a gay Democrat Mayor, Democrat Chief of Police, Quanelle X and Sheila. Just four of the many reasons I moved out of the City.
I have read some scrawlings of supposed intellectuals that actually do say a right isn’t a right if you can’t avail yourself of it, especially for financial reasons.
In other words, they do indeed believe that anything that is a “right” has to be “free”.
>>One might argue that education and health care fall into those provisions of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, she said.
One might argue that...if one is STUPID!! People certainly have a RIGHT to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They do not have a RIGHT to take other people’s life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness to get it FREE.
For a working person, taxes represent the confiscation of money earned by trading a portion of their finite life for money. Every dollar I pay in taxes represents a period of time that is taken from my life to earn that dollar. If I want to exercise the LIBERTY to PURSUE HAPPINESS, her gummint will confiscate a portion of my LIFE to pay for some troglodyte’s lifestyle.
Free the slaves Rep. Lee!!
Sheila consistently proves herself to be the dumbest member of Congress, but Maxine Waters makes it close.
Constitution implies a right to health care, education
We have the right to pursue all sorts of stuff though it does not guarantee we receive it. The Only thing it implies is the right to life and liberty. And that doesn’t mean the government shall pay for anything that extends your life. It’s an “active vs passive” thing.
These peoople really make me ill sometimes, if only because people that should be laughed at as they loudly share their political views in a drunken stupor in a sleazy bar are actually our elected representatives. It is not very flattering of the intelligence and character of the voters who elect them.
Redpoll was the ONLY FReeper to pick up on it. Everyone else went along with what the idiot said.
Good question, I don’t know how to categorize dumb:)
Ah, that’s brilliant. Good job in editing the quote you replied to.
Shouldn’t the gub’mint also be providing me with arms I have the right to bear?
Whatta bout a car, Sheila, and one of dose big screen teevees? Howcome that Declaration thingy doesn’t cover tha otherstuff I need?
