National rates of gun homicide and other violent gun crimes are strikingly lower now than during their peak in the mid-1990s, paralleling a general decline in violent crime, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of government data. Beneath the long-term trend, though, are big differences by decade: Violence plunged through the 1990s, but has declined less dramatically since 2000.
Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.
Nearly all the decline in the firearm homicide rate took place in the 1990s; the downward trend stopped in 2001 and resumed slowly in 2007. The victimization rate for other gun crimes plunged in the 1990s, then declined more slowly from 2000 to 2008. The rate appears to be higher in 2011 compared with 2008, but the increase is not statistically significant. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall also dropped in the 1990s before declining more slowly from 2000 to 2010, then ticked up in 2011.

Let's repeal the 1936 Gun Control Act.
So, gun crimes are down at the same time gun ownership and guns sales are at an all time high. If we use the same kind of prima facie cause-and-effect logic used by the gun grabbers, then I would maintain that increased gun ownership and sales have CAUSED gun crimes to decrease, and therefore we need even MORE gun ownership and gun sales. That way, gun crimes would go down even more.
Who knows, this might even be a correct inference, given that:
1. An armed society is a polite society.
2. More good guys with guns than bad guys with guns is gonna make bad guys committing crimes with guns much more dangerous (to the bad guys).

Most Crime including gun-crime is committed by a tiny % of the population. It only takes one patriot to fight back and remove that % from the ranks of the living free.
But in the home of liberals that patriot is an unarmed victim and thus the criminal’s spree goes on and on and on...

Drudge linked this version. I heard it on the radio news. Google News found the Pew article quickly.
It was in the 80’s and early 90’s when cocaine and more importantly, crack cocaine, swept the nation. I realize that cocaine was around before, but a tsunami of it hit in the 80’s and has continued ever since.
Then ‘crack’ was discovered. And with it, a whole new wave of violence. The profit margins on crack are astronomical. Something like $500 worth of cocaine = $5000 worth of crack(it may even be better than that). Not a bad profit for mixing cocaine and baking soda. Anywho....
Ask any inner city cop what happened when crack hit the streets back in the 80’s and early 90’s. The cities turned into war zones. It was nothing to have guys on the corner with 500 hits of crack, guns, and $10k in his pocket.
Pretty soon, all of those guys started getting killed or going to prison. And with it, either thru the courts or natural selection, their numbers dwindled and took with it a good portion of the violence associated with it.
However, with the Cartels taking root here, there just might be an uptick, hopefully not.
On another note, in places like Atlanta, there are still lots and lots of aggravated assaults by firearm. Most go unreported, as the news doesn’t want to put the mayor in a bad light. But, the biggest reason those incidents are not murders, is because of advancements of modern medicine. Most of which is a direct result of battlefield medicine. Just sayin’.
67% of firearm murders took place in the country’s 50 largest metro areas. The 62 cities in those metro areas have a firearm murder rate of 9.7, more than twice the national average. Among teenagers the firearm murder rate is 14.6 or almost three times the national average. Those numbers are from six years ago. They have grown worse since.
Those are the crowded cities of Obamerica. The places with the most restrictive gun control laws and the highest crime rates. These are the places where the family is broken, money comes from the government and immigrants crowd in from some of the most violent parts of the world bringing with them their own organized crime. These are also the places that have run by Democrats and their political machines for almost as long as they have been broken.
Obama won every major city in the election, except for Jacksonville and Salt Lake City. And the higher the death rate, the bigger his victory. He won New Orleans by 80 to 17 where the murder rate is ten times higher than the national average. He won Detroit, where the murder rate of 53 per 100,000 people is the second highest in the country and twice as high as any country in the world, including the Congo and South Africa. He won it 73 to 26. And then he celebrated his victory in Chicago where the murder rate is three times the statewide average.
These places aren’t America. They’re Obamerica.

When I was a cop in Atlanta, I worked some of the busier areas, where the cops, firemen and emt’s were the only white folks. Except for those buying drugs.
I would tell my friends that driving into some the housing projects was like driving into a 3rd world country and that it was not America. They would chuckle. Until I told them the story of the guy that was shot, killed and laid on the sidewalk in one of the projects for a few hours, before anyone called 911. We knew this because our supervisor was an experienced homicide detective and he pointed out that rigor mortis was setting in. When we arrived, kids were playing tag and running around the body like nothing happened. The rest of the residents just went on with their lives.
So, yes sir, that is Obamerica.
