'Welkom in Orania' proclaims a mural, painted in white, blue and orange.
But this South African town, in the remote Northern Cape province, does not extend its welcome to everyone.
The colour scheme on the wall - accompanied by the community emblem of a boy pulling up his sleeves - harks back to the old apartheid flag.
Orania, one of the last outposts of racial segregation, is a whites-only enclave.
Around 1,000 people live in the rural community, established in 1991 during the last years of apartheid.

One single village on the planet made up of only whites must be stamped out down to the atoms!
It sets a very bad example when a group can actually manage their own lives without an overarching nanny state tyranny.
Just a large target for the ANC
This is actually very good news. I have long advocated for an independent state within Africa for the displaced whites. It’s a tough situation, but much like when we freed the slaves, sending people back is not practical, so we learned to co-exist over time. Not possible in South Africa. Too much hatred. I hope the South Africans let them go their own way and end the strife in that country.
It would also be interesting to see how the new nation did when compared with the others in the region. Would it have similar problems, or would it develop differently?
Vertrou in God en die Mauser
Let’s see what happens in the next ten or twenty years. Half of the Whites will probably emigrate.
“Half of the Whites will probably emigrate.”
If they come here, can we call them African-Americans?/s
Interestingly - when an outspoken black speaks his mind that more black men should marry black women instead of messing with the white girls - nobody makes a big issue out of it.
Of course if it’s the other way around (white/white)..it’s toxic.
I’m no expert on the country but IMO the best solution would have been to divide it into at least two pieces and maybe more.It would have been completely reasonable for *both* groups to be unwilling to be ruled by the other. One piece would have been for the whites and the other one(s) for blacks. Both the “white” portion and the “black” portion would have contained fertile farm land as well as substantial reserves of mineral wealth (gold, diamonds, etc). But then nobody asked me.

That’s an idealistic view of race relations in the US; they are bad and only getting worse. As bad as Jim Crow was, affirmative action quotas are no better (simply antagonizing people who may have had any other reason to involve themselves in race issues). Freed slaves that did return to Africa fared well in Liberia (founded 1847) until the native Africans there rose up a century and a half later...because THEY were treated as slaves.
Oh, I agree. Race relations right now in America are awful, particularly anti-white education and animosity between blacks and Hispanics. I’m just saying we haven’t committed mass killings in a long while, whereas the plight of white Africans today is hard to read about. Like the composite parts of Yugoslavia had to go their own way, so will these countries in Africa.
It is a matter of survival for the whites:
South African whites are murdered by blacks at a rate six times the murder rate of Detroit.

I used to work with a white guy from South Africa who was a naturalized American. He used to get a kick out of reminding us Yanks that he was an African-American.
“Like the composite parts of Yugoslavia had to go their own way, so will these countries in Africa.”
So will the composite parts of the US, unless people are truly treated equally in the eyes of the law. We have no mass killings (but plenty of racial killings) because we are segregated enough to prevent it; I live within sight of Newark NJ, but you won’t find me there after dark - that is how people stay safe.
If my children have to step aside for jobs or educational opportunities because they are not a “preferred minority”, then obviously they are much better off if such “preferred minorities” don’t exist. They shouldn’t be expected to treat as their equals people that THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT MAINTAINS ARE INFERIOR AND REQUIRE A “LEG UP”. This isn’t even just about race; women are treated as inferior by such policies as well. My children will probably qualify as “preferred minorities” themselves, and I’d use that to the max to prevent them being denied a future.
I was born a "preferred minority", but no one from the gubmint has ever done a thing to give me a leg up. Not that I've asked for it, either.
My kids could milk that cow if they wanted to, but I have a feeling that the idea won't even cross their minds until much later in life. Same as me.

They will if they can’t get an education or job without it (and I wouldn’t blame them). When we were younger it was less overt; it is blatant now, and enforced by law (and the threat of lawsuits). My town (which has few blacks, though many Hispanics) has an agreement with the NAACP whereas we have to waive our residency requirements for police/fire (to allow neighboring Newark’s residents to apply) while Newark is allowed to maintain its residency requirements for those same jobs.
If this doesn’t breed racial hatred, it certainly breeds indifference (which may be worse).
Well, I've never relied on Uncle Sugar for a damn thing, and my little acorns won't fall far from the tree.
Perhaps it's because they're home schooled, and their family owns a business. They just don't have the 'gibmedat' mindset, and never will.
“Perhaps it’s because they’re home schooled, and their family owns a business. They just don’t have the ‘gibmedat’ mindset, and never will.”
That’s fine, until they are competing with businesses that get tax breaks and easier access to capital because they are “minority/women owned” and because they hire a certain number of “women/minorities”. You have noble intentions, but the legal atmosphere has changed since BJ Clinton was elected (and it is worsening quickly).
I’ve never had that mindset, and I’ve worked since I was 13 years old (even earlier than that delivering a weekly newspaper one afternoon per week); I’ve never been unemployed (even for a day, thank God), and have never received a government benefit - I’m a “maker”, not a “taker”. I would like my children to have the same opportunity, without being punished for their skin color.
I instill my values in my children, including contempt for “preferred” groups that won’t grow up to be real Americans. I also make sure they know what Irish people faced when they arrived here; they eventually grew up and joined the ranks of adult Americans (with no help at all from the government).
