Anti-Gun Chicago Pol Trotter Gets Wrist Slap

In a development I’m sure will shock you, trusting SGN reader, Chicago State Sen. Donne Trotter worked out a plea bargain with local prosecutors that saw felony gun charges reduced to a misdemeanor.

Trotter faced up to three years in prison for trying to board an airplane with a .25 cal. Beretta in his luggage back in December. What he got was a year of court supervision and 60 hours of community service, which he apparently will fulfill by delivering anti-gun lectures to school kids.

Trotter’s explanation for having the gun in Chicago, which had an effective ban on handguns for 20 years, was that he, a 63-year-old lawyer and politician, was working as a security guard.

Wanna bet that you, Mr. SGN Reader, would get the same deal from Cook Co. prosecutors if you made the same mistake? Didn’t think so.

I always liked those little Berettas. Before I was 18 I had both a jetfire in .25 and a Minx in .22 short. They were beautifully made and finished and a whiz to use.

You did not have to retract the slide to load them tho you could if you wanted to.

On the other hand you could not unload them by retracting the slide as it had no extractor. It was designed that way. You flipped up the barrel and either put in a cartridge or removed one with your finger nail.

The most surprising thing about them was how accurate they were. I had another Minx which had a 4 inch barrel. It was still tiny but that is a pretty long barrel for such a small gun. My four inch barrel one was extremely accurate but it was the only one the sights were off a little. I had to always aim just a bit to the right as it shot to the left and the sights were not adjustable.

The concept for a common law for rich and powerful as well as for the poor and weak is gone. The elites, especially the politically connected elites, have a separate law for them and can’t be bothered to follow the saws written for the hoi polloi.

Decades ago, my first lesson about politics was that the lowest things one could be was a Little Rock lawyer or a Chicago politician. Democrats gave us both as President.

Oh, sure you knock .25’s NOW, but just wait until there’s a cat you need to mildly annoy...

It may not be much for stopping power but a .22 short out of a 4 inch barrel will kill you deader than a door nail.

A Swedish appeals court has reduced a lower court’s eight-year prison sentence for a 17-year-old boy found of guilty fatally stabbing his sister more than 100 times after she fled a forced marriage in Iraq, in what the court referred to as an “honour killing”.

In a ruling issued on Tuesday, the Malmö Court of Appeals (Hövrätten), upheld the teen’s guilty verdict, but discarded the lower court’s eight-year prison sentence.

The court instead sentenced the boy to four years in juvenile detention because he was 16 when he killed his sister.

As the boy was only days away from his 17th birthday at the time of the attack, the lower court had decided to punish him as a 17-year-old rather than as a 16-year-old, allowing for a longer prison sentence.

The appeals court verdict stated that had the the crime been committed by an adult, it would have warranted a sentence of life in prison.

The appeals court’s verdict also confirmed that there was enough evidence to tie the teen to the murder, restating that the apparent motive was the notion of protecting the family’s honour.

The 17-year-old’s sister had previously fled a forced marriage in Iraq and returned to Sweden. Her body was found with multiple stab wounds in her Landskrona apartment in April 2012.

Representatives of the Malmö-based organization Tänk om, which works to stop honour crimes, told local media at the time that the woman had been in touch with them for one year since returning to Sweden and that she slept with a knife under her pillow for fear of reprisals over her escape.

They claimed local authorities had ignored their warnings that the woman was under threat and needed protection.

After being found guilty in district court, the victim’s brother appealed his sentence and argued he should be set free.

Upon learning of the verdict, attorney Elisabeth Massi Fritz, who represented the victim’s sister, claimed the question of sentencing for violent crimes committed by young people should be tried in the Supreme Court (Högsta domstolen).

“You have to look at what sort of murder we’re dealing with. There are a number of complicating circumstances,” she told the TT news agency.

She added, however, that she was happy that the appeals court had confirmed the “honour” motive for the killing, seeing the verdict as a sign that the Swedish courts are starting to deal with a matter facing many young people in Sweden.

“I’m even more pleased considering all of those who have actually been victims of honour crimes,” she said.

Yep. Ask Reagan's SS detail about Hinkley's .22. The slug was a couple millimeters from ending the the best presidency of the 20th century... (after grazing off the door of the limo he was being stuffed into).

Besides Reagan nearly being snuffed out, RFK was killed by a cheap .22 revolver (just reminded by a History Channel program).

Not my weapon of choice, but I can drive nails with a Browning Buckmark at a fair distance. It's a perfect practice and varmint gun, and not a bad weapon to have by your side in a pinch.
