State Sen. Leland Yee told KQEDs Paul Lancour today that he is planning to introduce legislation to require people who manufacture guns on 3-D printers to undergo background checks. If that effort should fail, Yee said he then will attempt to have such weapons banned altogether.
What Im looking at right now is to ensure that any individual who is going to make a gun out of these 3-D printers go through a background check, just like any other individuals who purchase a gun, Yee said.
Yees announcement mirrors efforts by legislators on a national level to regulate 3-D guns in the wake of a YouTube video demonstrating just how easily such weapons can be made. They require as few as 15 components that can all be built on 3-D printers.
What is even more dangerous about these guns, said Yee, is that because they are made out of polymer [they] in fact can go through a metal detector or an X-ray machine undetected."
Yees initial focus on the background check issue also comes soon after the apparent failure on Capitol Hill to expand background checks on a national level. Those legislative efforts came after the school killings in Newtown, Conn., last December.

like that
The more I think about it, the more all the commotion about gun pop-tarts, pencils, drawings and fingers makes sense. The left is creating an atmosphere where anything goes that puts a pox on firearms, and promotes less individual security against the state and thugs, and more dependence on the state and fear of thugs.
And it was pretty funny too.
Heck, why not call it a Freedom Download and include an entire library. Everything from The Constitution and Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, Eakers Survival manual, various 3D designs like this one, and a lot of other banned knowledge.
I LOVE THAT IDEA....
A “Library of Forbidden Freedom Knowledge”.....
Survival Guides and other stuff, make sure we include a “know thy enemy” section that contains “Alinsky’s Rules” as well and the works of Marx, along with “freeper comentaries.....
I wonder if it would have to be on burned media, or if it could be made in lots of say 10,000 by CD printing place...
Make it all in a HTML format....
Could be a very cool freeper project...
Rejoin? Leland was never part of any normal world. Guy’s a crack brained leftwingtard anti-American ... ~
LOL.
Mr. Yee's theme song:
oh and hey i tried that finger under the nose thing and i sneezed anyway which is ok it saves time
You clearly have not been properly trained.
How shocking. The Chinese racist wants to make sure whitey can’t get a gun.
When his PLA buddies start arriving in even larger numbers, he wants to make sure there won’t be any resistance.
This is the REDLINE folks. This is an effort to abbrogate the 2nd in a massive, absolute fashion. Every one of our Congress critters needs to hear from us. Now.
The Federal Bureau of Computer Printer Control is knocking on your door!
Rerand Yee was my old state senator when I lived in SF. He’s a real creepy bastard. Look it up.
I used to think Asians were on the smarter side of the general population until I watched them elect that douchenipple to represent them in Sacramento. He’s very truly and plainly not an intelligent person. It shows almost immediately if you’ve ever heard him talk. Basically somewhere around the Shiela Jackson-Lee level of intellect.
Still, I don’t think they’re related.
Unclear on the concept.

Sheesh, ignorance and/or lies like that, you must be a Democrat, Yee!
It's perfectly legal for people to manufacture their own guns using traditional technology with no background check, so wouldn't this be a "loophole" (government overreach loophole), since they'd be grabbing onto more control merely because of the introduction of new tech? The new law would be logically inconsistent with the old, which wouldn't be "noticed" by anti-rights Democrats (but I repeat) myself until AFTER enactment of the new law, whence they'd immediately proclaim the discrepancy a "loophole" and attempt to extend the law to weapons made with traditional tech.
Exactly. The printers print printers. And there’s tons of designs for DIY printers. So how could this simpleton possibly enforce this?
Hey, doofus! Had you been old enough to be around when glocks hit the scene, I bet you'd have been stupid enough to believe the crap about them being undetectable too! Plus there's already a law against building them that way, so what's the problem? No one would EVER break a gun law, right, Democrat?
