About six months ago, U.S. intelligence officers in Jordan told Syrian rebel commanders that the opposition should fight radical rebel group Jabhat al Nusra before fighting Syria's army, a commander present at the meeting told Phil Sands of The National.
"We'd prefer you fight al Nusra now, and then fight Assad's army," The Syrian commander said he was told. "You should kill these Nusra people. We'll do it if you don't."
America has not acknowledged such an action or commented on the report, but the notion is plausible.
The U.S. has officially provided non-lethal aid and humanitarian assistance to rebels, while expressing reluctance about greater military entanglements in the 26-month-old conflict.
Unofficially, the CIA is reportedly working with elite counterterrorism units in Iraq, funneling U.S.-made weapons to Syrian rebels from southern Turkey, feeding intelligence to moderate rebels, training rebels in Jordan to safeguard chemical weapons and potentially to establish a buffer zone along Syria’s southern border, and scoping out targets for potential drone strikes inside Syria.

I think it was in Libya where the “Freedom Fighters” were fighting Khadafi, and one of their leaders had been supplied with American weapons, and had a sat phone to call in airstrikes by American/NATO planes. The leader had trained at Taliban camps in Afghanistan. “Never fought Americans - only training”.
They’ve been happily killing each other for a thousand years. The only difference is they now have modern weapons (which their primitive culture could have never developed) and that allows them to be a threat to not only themselves but the rest of us. That means there is an element of cultural genocide / murder / suicide. Yer gonna need a bigger dictionary.

Here’s a link to an article about him - not the one I recall but it has info. And I was wrong. He DID admit to fighting against the Americans in Afghanistan, and was also captured by us. “But I never went to Guantanamo.”
Sadly, doing a google search on “arming former taliban in libya” first brings up about 40 results for “Syria” instead.
But, “what does it matter now”?
Me- I think the Benghazi coverup is a coverup for how we were arming the rebels and it blew up in our face.

Seems to me thqt our policy in the Middle East has been anything but schizophrenic. In every single conflict, the Obama administration has supported the element favored by the Muslim Brotherhood.
Save for Iran, of course, where they sided with the Islamist mullahcracy rather than the people.
Further, the administration has been consistent in working against Israel's interests at every opportunity.
That's not schizophrenic; that's single-minded.
