NBC News is on the verge of naming Deborah Turness, the head of Britains ITV News, as its next president, according to several people with knowledge of the appointment.
Ms. Turness, if appointed, would be the first woman president of a network television news division in the United States, succeeding Steve Capus, who stepped down from the position in February after a tenure of nearly eight years.
A spokeswoman for NBC News, a unit of Comcasts NBCUniversal, declined to comment. Ms. Turness responded on Friday to an e-mail, I cant comment on what is pure speculation.
But others with knowledge of the appointment said that her promotion could be announced as early as Monday. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the appointment publicly.

The next president of NBC News will face an array of challenges. NBC has the highest-rated evening newscast (NBC Nightly News) and a big source of revenue (the cable news channel MSNBC) that its rivals envy. But it also has a morning show, Today, that has sunk to second place behind ABCs Good Morning America after a historic 16-year run in first place, resulting in the loss of tens of millions of dollars in advertising revenue.
More broadly, NBC News faces the same ratings difficulties as other television networks, as well as fresh competition on the Internet from any number of news sources.

She is the third Brit to take over a top newser job in the U.S. in the past year (ABC News and the NY Times beat NBC to the punch) ... and she has a solid background primarily in tabloid reporting ... but you Freepers should not read anything about the quality of our profession or the emphasis our management is placing on future news gathering operations into those facts!
New newser looser on the lose ping.
“More broadly, NBC News faces the same ratings difficulties as other television networks, as well as fresh competition on the Internet from any number of news sources.”
The truth will set you free.
She attended Knights Templar school...man....In surprised the Brits still use such a vaunted yet non PC name
“she has a solid background primarily in tabloid reporting”
Then she should fit in at nbc just fine since thats what they specialize in these days.
So they “settled”. More brilliant headline writing.
"I thought my resume would be perfect, but I didn't even get a interview."
“That’s a man baby!!”
To quote Austin Powers;-)/S
Here’s hoping she’s a real Brit Tabloider.....
Most of you out there cannot argue our media is so far below par that it is impossible to compare them to a high school news team.
For Boston, Newtown, ea al-like events it seems to me like Brit media is so far above and more focused at getting truth that is really news to the world.
If this woman does 1/4 of what that Brit Media mentality can do, this country will be better served. He’s to hoping she has enough balls to get the truth past her corporate and government handlers.
You would have in your day...but our modern propaganda methods have far surpassed the primitive techniques you pioneered. We've gone high-tech.
My guess is he didn’t get the memo that it’s OK to discriminate against white aryan’s even if they have a club foot.
Hmmmm... presumably this means she’s been fully-vetted & approved by the Obama administration.
Yay, chickification.
Whaaaa -? no way no how.
NBC, huh?
Now they can fabricate and falsify the news with a pretty-sounding Brit accent.
Yes, but is her Communist Party membership dues paid up for 2013?
I guess Candy Crowley wasn’t available. Too bad. She would be a natural.
