The weather is cold and rainy today, and that is wreaking havoc with my pain.

It looks like I'm done gang - on the road again. Even though I closed the loop back at Little Feat, I decided to close with Jimi's masterpiece so that I could share this very unique interpertation played on the Koren Gayageum whitch is an eastern lute-like, harp instrument that was invented in the 6th Century. It just shows how univerasal a melody can be and the rich diversity of interpertation in the hands of a master musician. Music is truly a universal language.
Luna Lee - Little Wing

ROCKUMENTARY: MAY 11, 1980

Where were you on Sunday, May 11, 1980?

I was climbing the corporate ladder at a bank in L.A. Not exciting at all, but that’s business for you.

America was experiencing double digit inflation, the economy was in recession, the Iranians were making monkeys out of us, and all Jimmy Carter could do was wring his hands and blame the country for its malaise. Ronald Reagan was gearing up for the Republican nomination, which had the Left ecstatic – they thought he was too far to the Right to win – but also terrified – because he just might win after all.

Let’s cue the Rockumentary theme!

San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

Catch the Drake-Chennault jingle that opens the video. This was Motown Disco, as produced by Robin Gibb. It came in at #10 this week.

Jimmy Ruffin: “Hold on to My Love”

Kenny Rogers could do it all. He started with Hard Rock, moved to Hot Country, handled power ballads with ease and entered the age of duets with panache. This came in at #9 this week.

Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes: “Don’t Fall in Love with a Dreamer”

MAY 11, 1980? I was on the last leg of an east coast barnstorming tour with the Cowen Brothers in a qusi-disco trio known as Airply that was a keyboard heavy Gino Vannelli clone band without the talent. We had started in March opening for groups like The Showmen and The Rondells at decent mid-sized concert venues, but had evolved down the food chain to play showrooms in Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach and Virginia Beach. By mid-May we were headlining the lounges at Ramada Inns and I was yawning (wishing I was climbing the corporate ladder at a bank in L.A.), so I took my leave, left soft disco-lounge-pop behind, went Outlaw Country and never looked back. Yee-haw.

Airplay - Celebrate Your Love

Airplay - I Don't Need You

Airplay - Her Town Too

Airplay - Nights (Feel Like Getting Down)

Oooo...now THAT’S what I’m talkin’ about! Very neat shop and I think leaving them behind is a great idea! Of course, they will too. LOL!

Hope it’s not TOO long before we get back! I still miss Maine...and my Sis!

Sorry the weather is making your pain worse. Not good! :(

This was another one who could do it all. He rocks out this time, and it came in at #7 this week.

After listening to the first two songs, I can say that your decision to leave all that behind to opt for Outlaw Country was a wise move on your part.

Where is the line that separates Rock from Hot Country? I couldn’t find it with both hands, but Bob Seger straddled that line with ease. It came in at #6 this week.

Bob Seger: “Fire Lake”
