The reason, Republicans say and some Democrats acknowledge, is straightforward. Whatever other circumstances might cloud a race, Republicans can still argue that Democratic candidates will be nothing more than stooges for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Sanford made the point frequently in his own campaign, particularly during the race’s final weeks. Most memorably, he held a mock debate with a cardboard cut-out of the Democratic leader. Even the tawdry details of Sanford’s past failed to make the race about him.

All the Dems have to do is work to divide the social conservatives and fiscal conservatives and they win.

It just could have been that Sanford confessed his sins and took the punishment, unlike Bill Clinton, Anthony Weiner et al.
Let us hope that conservatives come out in enough force to ensure ID becomes entrenched.

The Democrat Party is completely bankrupt in respect to morality. There is not an iota of goodness in the entire evil cabal.
It’s true that Mark Sanford did not honor his wedding vows; however, those Democrats and many Republicrats will never honor their oath of office.
Examining Sanford as he stood before voters during this congressional election would indicate that politically he remains unchanged. He is a fiscal conservative. Those he represents will have to evaluate his performance, not the rest of us here.
