As I understand the tech, adding a fusion secondary to a fission primary is not so difficult as it was 60 years ago, and it is said that the increased yield for minimal added expense makes it a no-brainer.
The oil fields would be early casualties. Europe, at the least, would be in a world of hurt with no supplies.
A nice little airburst properly set to fry all electronics within the borders of Iran would be fun.
The only thing that is marginally difficult is the h-bomb with a “dial-in” yield.
And even that is not exactly any secret to states with the basic technology.
“”The world would face starvation on a massive scale.”
How did you come to that conclusion?”
“The Persian Gulf produced about 28 percent of the world’s oil supply and exported over 18 million bbl/d in 2006. In 2006, the Persian Gulf countries (Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates) produced about 28 percent of the world’s oil, while holding 55 percent (728 billion barrels) of the world’s crude oil reserves.”
Most of Africa and many other countries do not have significant reserves of oil. If there was an abrupt disruption of, say, 20% of the world’s oil then those countries would face an immediate, desperate problem. For many African countries, a $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into x% of the country falling below the starvation line. Never has there been a disruption in modern times on this scale. Western countries are rich enough that food would continue to be produced. But for months, possibly years, the added costs to poorer countries would translate into millions of people starving to death.
Even if the richer nations made a full-court-press effort to avert disaster, the resources to do so simply could not be mobilized quickly enough. Israel would take the blame. That is most likely why they haven’t used the oil path to taking down the current Iranian regime. Iran’s oil could be destroyed with just the cruise missiles from the two subs Israel sent to the Persian Gulf in the waning days of the Bush administration.
Yes. Since Iran is probably not exactly hardened against that kind of thing, all electronics and electrical stuff would likely be gone after the first hit. Including any defenses.
In 1961, I was told that, when I was a G.I. brat, living on Otis AFB, MA, the furthermost land mass point, and location of the Continental Aerial Defense Identification Zone, protected by F-101 Voodoo fighters, and Bomarc ground-to-air long range “high yield” missiles.
The general in charge of the base came to my school. We had a lecture from him that ended with: “Kids, if you ever see a large flash happen on this base, just stop, look at the flash, and don’t worry about anything else. Your mom and dad will be doing their jobs, and they will be safe.”
‘Oooo, pretty!’
Remember Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, was 7 in 2nd grade
Big rumor at school that week was that Russkies had targeted
school. We figured be great if Russian nuked the school
so would have vacation......
Sounds teriffic!!!
Turn the middle east into a glass parking lot!
all destruction of the middle east is much better! The only good muslim is a dead one!
Those who consider an Iran-Israel nuclear exchange need to realize an even more horrific reality.
Iran is not the only nation that wants to annihilate Israel.
Israel must calculate that if it is too badly damaged after a war with Iran, it could be overrun by Arab armies that have long sought to destroy it, and tried to do so several times.
The only Arab nation that at least for a time was at peace with Israel was Egypt. And to do so cost its leader, Anwar Sadat, his life.
So Israel must consider that, if attacked by one such nation, it must eliminate the capacity to wage war by several nations.
So, who would be on Israel’s target list?
Number one, by far, the instigator and treasurer of Islamic terrorism around the world, is Saudi Arabia. Riyadh, Mecca, Medina, and a few other cities. Arabia would be effectively neutralized with 6 or 8 nuclear weapons.
Israel has about 200.
Damascus, Syria, and much of eastern Lebanon would also be forfeit, because of Hezbollah. Perhaps even Beirut.
Israel might send a message to the Egyptian army that they give the government an ultimatum for peace. Though there really is no estimation of the Israeli calculation.
Even parts of Pakistan might be forfeit, as they train the foot soldiers of terrorism, and have a population half as large as that of the United States. As yet, their missiles cannot reach Israel, but that is subject to change, and they have no problem with targeting nuclear missiles against Israel if they could.
Israel has never confirmed or denied possessing nuclear weapons, but is widely known to have up to several hundred nuclear warheads in its arsenal. Iran has no nuclear weapons and its leaders claim that its nuclear program is for peaceful civilian purposes only.
See? It's pure, impartial, rational science. No evidence of prejudice whatever.
Screw the Euro-weenies. They hate Israel almost as much as Iran does. Let ‘em freeze in the dark.
LLS
Exactly, and this has to be repeated over and over and over ....
G’night all. Pleasant dreams.
May be. It's toss up between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Yet, the United States President bows before King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.
As I state on another thread, with all our newly found oil resources in our nation (think fracking), it's time to kiss the camel-humpers goodbye. Here ya go Royal Family, my ass is in the air for you to kiss it with fresh bacon place on each buttcheek. Go back to your 7th century and leave us alone. In fact, go back to your tents before western civilization discovered your oil and you profited from it.
Just DIE off you tyrannical women abusing POS's. I don't know what our State Department is thinking, but I see you as an enemy. We should cut all ties with Saudi Arabia and tell them where they can shove their stupid looking robes and headgear. F them.
Yeah, and Walter Cronkite said the Viet Nam war was over after the Tet Offensive. The first of a long list of media opinions that were wrong, but as usual, caused many American lives.
Iraq is supposedly free, but we keep seeing our Troops come home with missing limbs.
Aftganiscrap is supposedly free of the Taliban/al Queda, but we still see casualties there.
We won't win anywhere in the world until we drop another bomb or two on these Koranimals. THAT will wake them up!
Thank you for your service, Tet. Glad I missed it.
