Dem Senator Mark Warner's note to Virginians, urging strong support of Homosexual marriage

Posted on 05/14/2013 5:59:11 AM PDT by Gopher Broke

I’m writing to ask for your help on an issue that has gotten a lot of attention recently: marriage equality.

Even though many states now recognize the rights of committed same-sex couples to marry, the federal government continues to discriminate. Same-sex couples are denied all sorts of legal rights – like access to their spouse’s insurance benefits and Social Security survivor benefits – because of an outdated law called DOMA.

That’s just wrong. All married couples should be entitled to the same legal rights – regardless of sexual orientation.

The Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments challenging the Constitutionality of DOMA, and I signed an amicus brief urging the Court to do the right thing and strike down this discriminatory law.

Can you make your voice heard before the Court issues its ruling? Please sign my petition and urge the Court to strike down DOMA so that committed same-sex couples get the same legal rights as anyone else.

When I was Governor, I implemented Virginia’s first executive order that explicitly banned discrimination against state employees because of sexual orientation.

And I’m a supporter of marriage equality because I think it’s time that we end the continued discrimination against committed same-sex couples across the country. I’m asking for your help to get the job done.

Will you add your name and tell the Supreme Court that committed same sex couples should have the same rights as anyone else?

Thanks for all that you do,

Mark Warner

Fortunately, it would never make it through the General Assembly. Northern Virginia the exception, most D areas in VA are predominantly black and they don’t support it. I don’t think traditional marriage is in jeopardy in VA anytime soon unless it is forced by federal action.

So the two senators from Fairfax/Arlington Counties tell the rest of us that we need to be on board with their agenda.

Warner wants to strike down DOMA at the federal level. He is not trying to impose gay marriage in VA.

Warner was married to Elizabeth Taylor, indicating that his judgment is impaired.

That was former Sen. John Warner, not Mark Warner.

“All married couples should be entitled to the same legal rights – regardless of sexual orientation.”

That is a fascinating verbal trick. Like so many formulations of the Left, it preempts debate through phrasing. Thomas Sowell calls it “verbal virtuosity”. The sexual orientations of the parties to the marriage contract are irrelevant. Homosexuals have been marrying for millennia, and enjoying the same legal rights. The debate is really about the definition of marriage. That is very effectively sidestepped, turning the issue into one of simple discrimination.

VA passed its amendment by 57% in 2006. That was the lowest % a passing amendment received in any southern state, even FL was better. The weird thing about VA’s amendment is I think it would have passed by more but the wording was so strict it turned off many folks, the AG had to clarify after it passed that adults could still enter into legal contracts with other adults.

His petition is about striking down DOMA, which will then leave it up to the states to decide on gay marriage. The problem is that the federal government will then have to decide what constitutes marriage for pension, entitlement program, and survivor benefits. Will each state’s laws govern that? Can someone get married in MD, move to VA, and receive federal spousal benefits?

I used to think “raising taxes” was at the top of the list when it came to things that got Dems aroused. But even that seems to pale compared to their passionate embrace of homosex. Making it more and more difficult to look at a Dem politician without evoking the imagery and stench of feces.

Were you of voting age in VA in 2006? If so, you had the choice to vote on VA’s pro-marriage amendment.

Good God.. Shut up, Warner.

He and his fellow kneepad twin, Tim Kaine are two of Obama’s most adoring sycophants. I curse the interlopers in the occupied north and their fellow travelers in the black inner cities in Newport News, Norfolk, Hampton and Richmond who elected these two a**holes.

I voted pro-traditional marriage in 2006 and it passed fairly handily.
