The city of Keene, New Hampshire, is suing a group of do-gooders for allegedly topping off parking meters of strangers. The group, which calls itself "Robin Hood and his Merry Men," likes to leave notes on the windshields of cars that are in danger of getting a ticket due to an expired meter, according to the Union Leader.

So it's about tickets and the revenue.

Go figure that a protection/shakedown racket would do something like that and fall back to the courts for backup.

“Another parking enforcement officer claims that he suffers from heart palpitations, stress and anxiety, and “dreams related to this activity.””

hahahahahahahahaha!

"The suit also alleges that the group follows the parking enforcement officers around the city and uses video and radio equipment to coordinate their efforts."

If everybody were law abiding, there's be no need for meter maids, among others.

It makes no difference who puts money in the meter.

Morons.

In the 1950’s my home town Chamber of Commerce ran a similar campaign.

The note read:

The meter turned red
We knew you’d be blue
So we put in a nickel for you.

The City’s response: make “topping off” a meter a crime.

Same thing happened in Santa Cruz 5 years ago.

“Besides following me... and placing coins in expired meters to prevent me from writing tickets”

Aww, so that’s it- Sad because they can’t make the quotas.

Without tickets for expired meters there is minimum revenue.

A small tyranny.

But a tyranny nonetheless.

I would love to see this one go to the USSC.

It's a shakedown racket. Pure and simple.

Sure they have fancy uniforms. But that's the only moral difference.

To heck with the Supremes, I'd like to see it go to the people. And it obviously has, to some extent.

City keeps pushing, a city administrator is going to be out of a job.

Yes. I get “their” side of it.

But they are greedy idiots who do not understand the facts or, rather, choose to not understand the facts.

The “law” is the meter must be paid for a certain amount of time. It does not specify who must put in the coins.

Morons.

If the good samaritans don’t pay the meter the meter runs out and a ticket can be issued ... tickets make for more revenue then what the meter can produce.

Similar occurred here in Walnut Creek, Calif. The good guys lost.

It is also illegal in this town to not put money in a meter. If you park at a meter which has 30 minutes left and DO NOT add to it, you can be ticketed.

It is all about revenue.
