Police Chief Asks Citizens for Ammo, Gets 1,500 Round Loan Amid Strong Response

As the "Great Ammunition Shortage" continues, police departments across the country are struggling to supply their arsenals. One police chief turned to the community for help, and citizens stepped up.

In Proctor, Minnesota, police chief Walter Wobig says that his suppliers have told him he'll have to wait "months" for the 1,000 rounds he's requested.

When Wobig turned to the residents of Proctor by putting out a call for help meeting his department's ammo needs, citizens contacted his office, eager to help.

"The citizens were like, 'If you need something, we got plenty here,'" said Wobig.

One resident and a Proctor police officer loaned 1,500 rounds from their personal stockpile to the department.

The Chief says others offered to help too. "I had several other calls from other citizens that said, 'Hey, if you need more ammunition we have plenty,'" said Wobig,

The Chief says that when his ammunition order is filled, he will be repaying the citizens for their contributions.

Why do cops need that much ammo? We know they don’t practice that much and there are only so many dogs.

So, I wonder if this will work both ways? If a citizen needs ammo in a time of need, will the police give him some?

I didn't think so. They get zip from me, ever.

Hope these citizens never have to see their own rounds again... from the wrong end.

The 1,000 rounds is probably a year supply, doubt the locals gave them that much at one time.

I don’t fear my local or state police. I know many of them and they are the good guys. Same goes for the Texas Rangers, have known a couple.

Big Sis or Holder don’t have any to spare? And I suppose Obamster is too busy supplying the Muslim Brotherhood.

Yeah, make them appeal to the DHS and the feds.
They got plenty.

Just 1500 rounds for entire P.D. ?

That's about ten trips to the range for me :)

No OPSEC here.

When the SHTF and it’s confiscation time they won’t forget who is “hoarding” ammunition.

1,000 rounds isn’t much.

I go thru that much in a couple of trips to my range.( a place in the nearby woods where it is open).

It isn’t much, but considering the current price and availability, now it IS much.

I get your point, but Proctor, MN is a small town, I would guess, and the police there are probably regarded as part of the community. And who knows? Such a gesture might inculcate a certain level of goodwill that may prove helpful on down the road.

If I lived in New York City, and the police commissioner asked me to loan the department some ammo, I'd be with you in saying, "Get your own, pal. Life is tough all over." In a small town, it's a little different, in my estimation.

That would depend entirely on the circumstances. For it may come to pass that we will indeed be sending ammunition to our local constabulary. One round at a time. Praying it won't come to that.

“...They get zip from me, ever....”

Depends on your Chief and the particular department.

Some of these guys ARE on our side.

You should endeavor to find out who your local chief is and what side he’s on, either directly or indirectly.

Having a little insider warning that “things are happening” wouldn’t be a bad thing, and knowing you have friends and allies to support you is never bad.

Never discount a potential ally - or fail to identify a potential enemy.

Hey, there will be no common sense on a good cop-hating thread. All cops, without exception, are jack-booted thugs whose only pleasures in life are to hassle you and shoot your dog.

/sarc (if the tag is needed). Yours is sensible advice, and also one of the first things that I did when I moved to my new town. Local cops where I am are pretty good. Chief is no-nonsense, but a stand up guy. Kind of guy you'd want on your side in a fight.

While I will admit that generally, I’m not a big fan of LEOs overall, I will never push away an ally that can and will help in the event of any SHTF scenario.

We’ve been on “SHTF Standby” for a while now. It’s nice to know who’s on your side - and who’s not - in your locale. Especially when they have potential inside intel on things happening thereabouts.

Most of the time, one need only pay a small modicum of attention to your surroundings... Dem lawn signs and Ohole bumper stickers are a good indication of who is most assuredly NOT on your side.
