IRS Scandal, Higher Premiums Cast Doubts on Obamacare
NewsMax ^ | May 18, 2013 | By Sandy Fitzgerald

Higher-than-expected premiums, combined with the scandal-ridden IRS, are putting a shadow over Obamacare, with House Republicans vowing to keep up the fight against President Barack Obama's key agenda item.

On Thursday, the House voted once again to repeal Obamacare. This time around, two Democrats, Reps. Jim Matheson (Utah) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.)., sided with Republicans on the vote. All GOP members voted to repeal the health care issue.

In Saturday's weekly GOP address, Maryland Republican Rep. Andy Harris vowed his party will keep up the fight, discussing a report by the House Energy and Commerce Committee that detailed how insurance premiums will increase for many people under Obamacare, not lower them as promised.

“According to new data from the nation’s insurers, under ObamaCare, premiums in the individual market will skyrocket by an average of double what we pay now, with some rates rising by more than 400 percent," said Harris. The report said people in about 45 states may see premiums jump by about 100 percent, according to statistics from 17 insurance companies.

In addition to the higher premiums, Harris Saturday claimed Obamacare will be mismanaged by the Internal Revenue Service, The Hill reports.

The IRS has confirmed that it gave conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status extra scrutiny, and Republicans are trying to determine if the Obama administration was involved in the scandal.

“Now, just think about the fact that it’s the IRS that will be responsible for enforcing many of these regulations,” Harris said. “If we’ve learned anything this week, it’s that the IRS needs less power, not more.”

"In addition, it was learned this past week that Sarah Hall Ingram, who was named as the director of the Affordable Care Act's office in the IRS, had been in charge of the office in the IRS that works on applications from tax-exempt groups. Harris said that Ingram's involvement also casts a shadow over Obamacare."

I don’t know if he is intellectually limp, but he is morally suspect: why not adopt children from their actual country of origin? Why insist on suspiciously blonde, blue eyed South Americans? And shame on President Bush for not realizing how susceptible he would be to blackmail with that shady adoption of his two beautiful kids. Roberts should have adopted above board.

Former Republican congressman Tom Davis, of Virginia, said Republicans should be looking for a connection, but should be careful about how far they take it.

Obamacare, Davis told the Associated Press "is 50-50 with the public on a good day," said Davis. "You put that together with the IRS and it's combustible. For Republicans, I think they need to go a little slower and get some facts in."

"50-50 with the public on a good day"?

This Davis guy has always been a back-stabbing RINO. Seems like he's true to form now, trying to derail the momentum for repeal.

Byron York: IRS scandal raises fears about enforcing Obamacare
washingtonexaminer.com/ ^ | 5/13/2013 | Byron York / FR Posted by RoosterRedux

The IRS is critical to Obamacare. The structure created by the Affordable Care Act requires the government to know about both the health care coverage (or lack of it) and the financial resources of every American. The IRS, which already knows the latter, was the only agency with the reach to do the job.

A look at the text of the health care law reveals that much of it consists of amending the Internal Revenue Code to give the IRS more power.

When Obamacare goes fully into effect in January, every American will have to prove to the IRS that he or she has "qualifying" health coverage, meaning coverage with a list of features approved by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. That will be done by submitting a document to the IRS, something like a W-2, to confirm coverage.

The IRS will also decide who is, and who is not, eligible for Obamacare's subsidies. The law authorizes the IRS to share confidential taxpayer information with the Department of Health and Human Services for the purpose of determining those subsidies. And since subsidies don't just apply to a relatively small number of the nation's poorest citizens -- under the law, they can go to a family of four with a household income of nearly $90,000 -- they will affect a huge segment of the population.

In addition, the IRS will keep track of even the smallest changes in Americans' financial condition. Did you get a raise recently? You'll need to notify the IRS; it might affect your subsidy status. Have your hours been reduced at work? Notify the IRS. Change jobs? Same. (Excerpt) Read more at washingtonexaminer.com ...

I refuse to complete such a form. If that means I don’t file, so be it. I’m preparing to take all my chips off the table...401K, house, etc.

Doesn’t matter. Americans have enough ammo to shoot every DHS employee 45,674 times.

Davis is Davis ~ he has no motive one way or the other. This guy voted according to poll results in his district.

ObamaKKKare is not the most unpopular gub'mnt operation, although it soon will be.

I've never seen a national poll from a reputable source which showed Obamacare with 50% of the public support. For Davis to tell the left-oriented Associated Press (of all people) that Obamacare is "50-50 at best with the public on a good day" (don't exactly know what he means by that, but since he's presumably a Republican talking about repeal, one would think that he's saying that opposition to Obamacare is NEVER more than 50%) is to deliberately downplay the support for repeal at a time when repeal is picking up momentum and thereby undermine GOP efforts when every single voting Republican in House voted for repeal!!! That's stabbing his former colleagues in the back!

You'd need to have had Davis as your Congress critter to understand what he said ~ it has nothing to do with repeal ~ it has to do with popularity ~ 50/50 on a good day ~ is a reference to popularity at best ~ an aphorism ~ not a definitive statement.

Trying to pin this guy down is, as they say, a fool's errand!
