Syria’s Bashar Al-Assad is Winning
The Daily Beast ^ | May 17, 2013 | Mike Giglio

Posted on 05/19/2013 7:53:38 AM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Despite President Obama’s assertion on Thursday that he reserves “the options of taking additional steps, both diplomatic and military,” foreign intervention in Syria seems a distant prospect, and that, along with a string of military successes, has fueled the perception that president Bashar al-Assad now has the upper hand in his country’s bloody civil war. As Republican Sen. John McCain bluntly put it this week: "Right now, Bashar al-Assad is winning."

Only one thing to do then, organize all the beltway warriors into another Lincoln brigade and air drop them in to help the freedum fighters. I miss them already.

The scary thing about Syria is that the dictator is less likely to exterminate the non-Muslims than the insurgents

Assad won’t kill all the Christians, the rebels will.

The LIV doesn’t know that Iran will not allow Syria to fall outside its sphere of influence.

Good, I want him to win. I may not like him much, but I’m sick of siding with terrorists that want to exterminate Christians.

An Assad victory is likely best for us, but only after his military is crippled and the jihadists are exterminated.

Al-Assad knows two things:

1. Other arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc.. have all expressed to Obama that they do NOT want US Troops on the ground in Syria. They've seen how badly Obama's bungled the successes handed to him by the Bush Administration in Iraq and Afghanistan and turned both of them into complete catastrophe's.

2. Obama's nothing more than a paper tiger anyway. All he's good at (marginally) is giving teleprompter based speeches.

Al-Assad knows Obama doesn't have the stomach for opening up another war front, and if he did - Obama would bungle it so badly that it'd ultimately be a victory for Bashir Al-Assad.

In fact, any boots on the ground in Syria would only serve to be another rallying cry for every muslim terrorist group out there.

Al-Assad knows this. Every day he wakes up in Syria still in control is a stick in Obama's eye and you can bet Al-Assad knows this too.

“Assad is abandoning his bid to crush the rebellion and concentrating instead on the war’s vital fronts—which may have sparked the recent surge in tactical gains.”

Now this is about to stick it to Turkey IN THE FACE, and I love it. Assad is basically going to let the Kurds have their own state, and with that, the Kurds in Turkey will have a base to operate from and will likely achieve their goal of carving out their area from Turkey (Kurdistan has parts of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran - and they want to be united - but none of those countries would let them unite).

I’m no fan of the Kurds, but I hate Turkey more...so this should get very interesting soon.

One of my doctors, a Christian from Syria whom I've known for a very long time now has family in Syria. He'd strongly disagree with you that a victory for Al-Assad is good for the United States, independent of whether or not the Syrian military is crippled and the jihadists are exterminated. There's seemingly no shortage of muslim extremists and jihadists that will flow into Syria along with Iranian and Russian provided weapons.

Jihadi's see Syria as a tipping point and Iran along with Russia see this as a proxy war against the United States' influence in the middle east.

Great. So Iran is beating the Moslem Brotherhood.

Why can't both sides lose?

So what are we missing - Assad has a history of treating Christians well...certainly by the standards in that part of the world. Does ANYONE really think they will be better off if the other side wins...or does he just wish that the whole civil war never happened.

I suspect the latter, but you can’t put the genie back in the bottle.

Jihadis have flocked to Syria from all over the Muslim world, Europe and even the United States. The U.S. have supplied them with “humanitarian aid” including weapons from Libya. Yet this “unpopular” regime has held on for over two years. Assad does not want to share the fate of Qadaffi or Mubarak. If Assad goes the next target will be Lebanon. This is the bi-partisan plan for the Middle East. McCain (”They are my heroes”) and Graham are working with the administration to fundamentally transform the Muslim world.
