Has the IRS Already Seized Your Medical Records?
The American Spectator ^ | May 20, 2013 | David Catron

As gratifying as it was to see the “news” media actually do its job last week when the IRS scandal broke, it was also odd that the coverage focused exclusively on abuses of power relating to various Tea Party and anti-abortion groups. A much scarier IRS story has been virtually ignored by the establishment press. On Wednesday, it was reported that a class-action lawsuit had been filed against a group of IRS agents who, according to the complaint filed by “John Doe Company” in the Southern District of California, “stole more than 60,000,000 medical records of more than 10,000,000 Americans, including at least 1,000,000 Californians.”

Before I get to the feature of this case that will really scare the pants off you, a little more background: This tawdry tale began in 2011 with an IRS investigation concerning one former employee of “John Doe Company” pursuant to which a search warrant was obtained. This warrant didn’t authorize the seizure of anyone’s medical records, but the IRS agents “threatened to ‘rip’ the servers containing the medical data out of the building if IT personnel would not voluntarily hand them over.” They proceeded to seize the records “without making any attempt to segregate the files from those that could possibly be related to the search warrant.”

The doctor is just one small segment in the process. Payments changing hands between medical facilities/insurance/payment centers/banks/clearing houses/etc may contain more info than you think about you and your medical records.

True. The payment part through insurance can be tricky. Fortunately I’ve only been to see a doctor on very rare occasion. I had shoulder surgery two years ago. Other than that, I like to say that if I ever get cancer I will die of it because they won’t find it until I go to the doctor complaining about the acute symptoms.

Think “Warren Zevon”.

Going forward it might not be possible for your doctor to be licensed w/o completing certain paperwork on their patients.

It’s not all that relevant to me. I had shoulder surgery a couple of years ago, but besides my occasional cash payment trips to a Chiropractor, I really don’t have much need for doctors. I really don’t care what they tell the government, regarding what they actually know that the government doesn’t - which is not much.

That’s a good tack, generally. Just hope you’re never in an auto accident or some such situation where you require modern medicine.

Because based on these guys ‘use’ of IRS resources you can bet you won’t be getting that trauma unit or icu bed and you can just forget medivac altogether.

60 million records, 10 million people

“A lawsuit filed in California accuses the Internal Revenue Service of illegal seizure of 60 million electronic health care records belonging to 10 million Americans.”

Those kinds of numbers are pretty shocking.

What’s even worse is the behavior of the defendants in the case who [allegedly] just moved in and enjoyed the facilities as if they were occupying the Eagles Nest.

Is it 1933 yet?
