Exclusive: John McCain Slips Across Border Into Syria, Meets With Rebels
The Daily Beast ^

Posted on 05/27/2013 11:00:06 AM PDT by don-o

Sen. John McCain Monday became the highest-ranking U.S. official to enter Syria since the bloody civil war there began over two years ago, The Daily Beast has learned.

McCain, one of the fiercest critics of the Obama administration’s Syria policy, made the unannounced visit across the Turkey-Syria border with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He stayed in the country for several hours before returning to Turkey. Both in Syria and Turkey, McCain and Idris met with assembled leaders of Free Syrian Army units that traveled from around the country to see the U.S. senator. Inside those meetings, rebel leaders called on the United States to step up its support to the Syrian armed opposition and provide them with heavy weapons, a no-fly zone, and airstrikes on the Syrian regime and the forces of Hezbollah, which is increasingly active in Syria.

Dear Syrian Rebels:

If you wish to be successful in any endeavor keep that a$$hat John McCain as far away from you as possible.

What a foolish person.

Hey, rebels are you really really really telling me the truth?! I am sorry but he does not seem authentic any longer on much of anything.

maybe he has forgotten that Turkey’s ambassador to Libya was the last to see our Amb.Stevens before being killed by the same people McCain met. We have no business supporting anyone in the Syrian civil war. Get out!!

And one other reason to not to help the rebels is because they are exterminating the Syrian Christian population.

“Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham were vocal critics of the administration’s messaging after the Benghazi attacks, but on Friday, they issued a laudatory statement about Victoria Nuland”

Victoria Nuland

Spouse: Robert Kagan

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7370992.stm

Robert Kagan is an adviser to Senator John McCain and his idea that the United States should continue to take a strong, and possibly a confrontational, role in world affairs accords with McCain’s own views.

Kagan’s brother Frederick was instrumental in persuading President Bush to reinforce US forces in Iraq with last year’s “surge”, against the advice of the Iraq Study Group of “wise men” at the time. The surge was and is a policy supported by John McCain and one of the reasons for his political success.

Obama taps Victoria Nuland for assistant secretary
Friday, May 24, 201

EXCERPT

Following the announcement, Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which is tasked with confirming her nomination, remained mum on her nomination, though a committee source speaking to The Cable said there is “very little chance” the nomination won’t trigger a fight.

Nuland, however, is something of an awkward target for Republicans. From 2003 to 2005, she served as principal deputy national security advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney. Her husband is prominent neoconservative writer Robert Kagan, co-founder of the Project for the New American Century and an advisor to Mitt Romney’s failed presidential bid.

really good post. Appears McCain ,once again, finds himself in over his head. Kinda like at Annapolis, or piloting or as a senator, or as a presidential candidate, or in a dirt person commercial etc, etc.

The pattern of cronyism gives us this milktoast, inane, below average “leadership” in Washington.

Voters should shun these idiots with extreme prejudice.

And what did Juan think he might learn by slipping into Syria for a few hours and talking to one side of the conflict? But I’m sure he’ll come back and claim to be the most informed of all on this issue, and to possess information that makes his proposals critical to US national security.

Stand by for a blitzkrieg on the Sunday morning shows.

It will focus on broad strategic questions and provide the Secretary and other senior Department officials with insights, perspectives, and ideas. Secretary Clinton will meet with the Board several times during the duration of her tenure.

Secretary Clinton selected a distinguished, diverse, and bipartisan membership with a wide range of expertise and background, including past government service, academia, politics, development, and business. Strobe Talbott, President of the Brookings Institution and a former Deputy Secretary of State, will serve as the Board’s Chair. He will work closely with the Secretary and her Policy Planning Director, Jake Sullivan, to coordinate the Board and its meetings.

So basically, near as I can tell, this is Saudi Arabia (Sunni) fighting against Iran (Shiite) in a proxy war.

As many have pointed out, US policy ought to be to do all we can so that they each bleed each other white as we did with the Iraq/Iran war in the 1980’s. OK, maybe we did give Iraq some help back then but again, maybe that was a mistake.

Instead we’re doing all we can to help the Saudi’s (Obama’s masters) under the guise of “humanitarian concerns”. McCain is probably taking orders from Obama. Him being “critical” of Obama is a bit like Code Pink being “critical”.

What a choice.

Support the Al-Qaeda backed Syrian rebels or the Iran Hezbollah government.

As has been mentioned in the past, let them fight it out and then we can go in and clear out the “winners”

That would fit fine with the WOT.

After all which ever side wins is Islamic terrorists and which ever side loses is also.
