What If the Next President Is Even Worse? (Guess who he uses as an example? Yep!)
Yahoo! News / The National Journal ^ | May 28, 2013 | Ron Fournier

George W. Bush in 2001 declared war on a tactic (terrorism), and empowered Big Brother to tap phones, launch drones and indefinitely imprison people without due process.

Barack Obama in 2008 declared those Bush policies an overreach, and pledged to curb drone strikes, protect media freedoms, and close the prison at Guantanamo Bay. Instead, he escalated drone strikes and spied on the media. Gitmo is still open for its grim business.

These are facts. And yet, they are distorted by extreme and narrow-minded partisans, supporters of both Bush and Obama.

Conservatives contend that Bush single-handedly prevented a major terrorist strike after Sept. 11, 2001. They demagogue efforts to shift the pendulum back toward civil liberties. Last week, when Obama finally proposed a modest reassessment of the Bush doctrine, Sen. Saxby Chambliss claimed that the efforts "will be viewed by terrorists as a victory."

Liberals hypocritically gave Obama a pass for furthering the same policies they condemned in 2008.....

Conservatives or republicans?

Gitmo conducts a “grim business”? Maybe the author would prefer that GTMO’s inmates take their truly “grim business” to the USA’s streets, like what happened in Boston recently thanks to their ideological brethren.

I was much more worried about the one from Chicago via Arkansas and New Haven.

He almost assuredly has armed guards protecting him at work, play and at his gated community or condo residence. Little to worry about for him.

Heh. I was thinking of Hillary. Instead of just being the head of State - she can be head of the military and leave entire Divisions out to die.

And instead of a few files in her closet and on her coffee table, she will have the entire IRS data-bases to work with.

I would hate to see the number of folks to be Arkancided (sp?!) if she got in.

It is good to see him preaching to the choir. Sarah would be such a good president. Geez,her administration would actually follow laws.

God. In a rational country, those bastards at Gitmo would have been tried be a Military court and executed a decade ago it would be a moot point. They were all captured in the field, engaged at war against the US as illegal combatants.

Name a single person, Republican OR conservative, who makes such a claim. I very much doubt such a person exists. Certainly Bush never made any such claim.

The implication here is that Bush (or Obama) have NOT prevented major terrorist strikes.

I guess everybody has forgotten 9/12. At the time, we all assumed there would be at least several equivalent attacks per year. Yet here we are almost 12 years later, and the death toll from Islamist attacks (depending on how you define them) is still under 100.

Given there are at minimum several tens of millions of Islamists in the world who want to kill Americans, and some of them control a lot of resources, I think that a pretty damn good record.

2008 Obama made nice campaign promises to appease edgy voters....

<><>to curb drone strikes,
<><> to protect media freedoms,
<><> to close Guantanamo).

Instead, Obama escalated drone strikes, spied on the media, hung the treason label on Fox's James Rosen, and Gitmo is still open for business...

CONCLUSION He's weird. Guy needs to be committed---he is seriously deranged.....does the opposite of everything he says.

=================================================

BACKSTORY---FOCUS-GROUP TESTED RESPONSES ONLY on the campaign trail 2008 Ohaha was on a tight leash. He was rigorously coached, saying only cute things that would keep we, the people, in abeyance. He even said he wanted to be "another Reagan." (waiting for hysterical laughter to die down).

==========================================

The belatedly-alert media must NOW ask the questions they should have asked THEN---when Ohaha first surfaced as a candidate.

NUMBER ONE Who is this guy in the White House?

Remember that O's 2008 PR person----Anita "Mao" Dunn--- said AFTER the election that the O Team "allowed" the media to know only what THEY wanted them to know.

Ohaha was tightly scripted saying only cute things that would get him elected----revealing none of his anti-America hatred. The Chi/mob Dunn/Axelrod/Enmanuel/Jarrett allowed NO probing questions and up-close interviews. Hillary and Bill had ominous pics of Obama in Muslim garb--but Teddy Kennedy warned them not to use them.

===================================================

THIS WE KNOW The Obamanations are a tight-knit clique of socialists/communists/unions/progs/liberals----they see themselves as superior---bound together by "enlightened" values — reason, tolerance, diversity and equality. The rest of us are unworthy and are to be suppressed and marginalized.......using any means possible. Obamatoids dump on Bush and blames all of O's screw-ups on "evil Repubs").

TO DATE The Ohaha savages duped the citizenry, led us over a multi-trillion dollar deficit cliff, into massive corrupt bailouts, and atrocities like amnesty and Obamacare. Their motto: "Everything For Us-- Nothing For You."

In the wake of Benghazi, media abuses, IRS targeting, etc, we are reminded that the Obamanoids are ruthless predators w/ no empathy for others and no remorse; anti-social psychopaths who recognize no moral boundaries--aggressively going after what they want, irregardless of the consequences to others.

George W. Bush in 2001 declared war on a tactic (terrorism), and empowered Big Brother to tap phones, launch drones and indefinitely imprison people without due process.

There is so much crap in this first sentence, that it would be hard to give the rest of the article any credibility.

Terrorism isn't a "tactic". It is war that is conducted by proxies. Welcome to the 21st century. Obama's weird attempts to brush the term "terrorist" under the rug has lead to some horrible injustices: the Ft. Hood terrorist has been given full pay during imprisonment, the Benghazi attacks have lead to cover-ups, and anti-semitic murderers were not aggressively persued...leading to the Boston marathon bombings.

Bush had phones tapped when calls were made to foreign numbers associated with AlQeada. While I don't necessarily approve of warrantless phone tapping, it was a lot more narrowly applied than what the author portrays. And this cannot possibly equate to the gross misuse of a government agency (the IRS) to punish political opponents.

Launch drones. The technology during the Bush administration limited drones to recon. And Bush never even proposed to employ military drones on domestic soil. The use of armed drones only started at the very end of Bush's term. Obama, OTOH, has made full use of them, and has resulted in American deaths.

"...indefinitely imprison people without due process" Due process is a right reserved for US citizens, not enemy combatants. Clearly there is value to retaining these dangerous people for the information that they can provide.

I am guessing that the author doesn't explore some of the major abuses by the Obama administration:

Did Bush run guns into Mexico in an attempt to attack the Constitution?

Did Bush violate the War Powers act, like Obama did in Libya?

Did Bush take over a major corporation, steal money from bondholders and hand the company over to his union supporters, like Obama did with GM?

Can you imagine the plans the terrorists have for this 9/12 following their success in Benghazi last year?

Democrats go ballistic at the mere mention of Sarah Palin. What’s odd is that I don’t consider her a major threat for Democrats. I think Sen Ted Cruz is a more effective weapon for the GOP.

And anyone who feels otherwise about 9/12, keep in mind that I'm in NYC and I remember the feeling when that Airbus went down in the Rockaways just a few weeks later. The general feeling was "Oh, no. Not again."
