Finally hes leaving us. Now if McCain, among others, would do the same.

I am reminded of Dorothy Parker’s famous response to the news of Calvin Coolidge’s death - “How can they tell.”

He should never have been allowed to call himself a republican in the first place.

He must be terminally ill and is starting to get things straight with God. His first step is “no longer living a lie.”

Don’t tell that to George W. Bush; his Administration pressured the Republican Senatorial Campaign committee to fund Chafee’s campaign for the Senate during the primary against the conservative mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island, a real Republican who actually had innovative ideas. Chafee lost, and in “gratitude” endorsed Obama twice. I wonder who Bob Dole voted for.

just a thought ... might have made sense to clarify again in Post #1 that Chaffee was elected as an independent, not a Republican. So even the headline is misleading.
he is not going to “switch parties”. He currently doesn’t belong to a party. He is an independent or unaffiliated or whatever they call it in RI. He is joining a party, not switching.
Then again, many of these posters read the headline and not the short article excerpt. (post and run)
