Laying off people? According to the left, a company is supposed to go out of business first.

Why cannot the reporters take the pictures?

The local paper here has gone to this system and I haven’t noticed any decline in quantity or quality.

Besides, with photoshop they can manufacture pictures they same way they do with news copy. Who needs photogs?

I imagine the freelancers will be paid (something) but this feels like another move in the direction of unpaid internships. Who needs regualr staff? Who wants to pay benefits?? It's an honor just to work here! You can be an unpaid intern at a prestigious law firm, or a romantic freelance photographer at the Chicago Sun-Times!

Jobs? Who needs a real job? Jobs are so 20th century ...

Why cannot the reporters take the pictures?”

What reporters? Do you mean those people scanning the internet for articles they can use to fill up their newspaper? Seems like all you need to have in order to publish a newspaper now is someone who knows how to cut and paste.

There is more digging and research done by the people on FR than in any of the newspapers I’ve seen lately.

There are some shops where reporters can take the photos but there are some where union rules do prevent them from taking photos.

I’ve had to hold a microphone for a news photographer who came to shoot footage of a book signing and wanted to interview the author but couldn’t because union rules prevented him from holding the microphone, which I did for him.

“Why cannot the reporters take the pictures?”

They are busy receiving emails from the White House containing their stories.
