(Syrian Al-Qaeda Leader) McCain: Assad has "upper hand" in Syrian civil war
CBS ^ | 6/2/2014 | Lindsey Boerma

Posted on 06/02/2013 8:05:18 AM PDT by tobyhill

As the Syrian civil war rages on, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Sunday on "Face the Nation," what's unfolding is "unfortunately a battlefield situation where [President] Bashar Assad now has the upper hand - and it's tragic - while we sit by and watch."

Last week McCain secretly visited the war-torn country to meet with some of the rebel forces taking on Assad, and stepped up his pressure on President Obama to provide them with arms. On Sunday, he called the opposition "very tough - they're battle-hardened. They're very dedicated. They are not al Qaeda; they are not extremists."

"We have some very strong and good people who are fighting for freedom and are being massacred as we speak," McCain said. "And remember all this talk we've had in the past year or two: It's inevitable that Bashar Assad will fall? Well I think we can't make that statement today.

"... Hezbollah has now invaded, the Iranians are there, Russia is pouring weapons in," he went on. "And anyone that believes that Bashar Assad is going to go to a conference in Geneva when he is prevailing on the battlefield, it's just ludicrous to assume that."

The administration has shied away from escalating its response to the ongoing violence in Syria, despite hotly debated evidence that chemical weapons were used there in the past few months. Mr. Obama has insisted he will not act on anything less than categorical evidence, making repeated allusions to the inaccurate information that drew the United States into the Iraq War.

Exactly just why is that ‘tragic’....he’s been in charge for umpty years and now after all the really good things that have happened in Egypt and Libya, we’re supposed to just throw his ass out so a Muslim Brotherhood can just come in and make things better. I hope Syria DOES get those S-300s in from Russia...I’d rather an Assad instead of a bunch of mad dog Islamic assholes...

So John, why didn't you lead a battlefield charge by Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood since you are so gung ho?

I wonder why folks aren’t making the connections ... what does it tell us when Juan can fly to the middle east and meet with his friends in al qaeda, and the vermin media are unable to point out the obvious?

Syria is a sovereign nation. Assad is its leader. Knowing what elements are at work in Syria (and Egypt & Libya & Tunisia & Turkey, etc), I would do the same thing as Assad. He has been quite restrained all things considered. McCain and company are not saying the same things about Grand Perpetrator of global jihad & tyranny: Saudi Arabia. He and Barry Soetoro and the Clintons and the Bushes are pawns/shills/traitors. Everyone seems to know that except for most the American people.

Sen. John McCain is well past his prime, and it is dangerous for a dementia riddled idiot like this to be in a position of power.

For the good of the country John - and you are a true patriot - it is time to step aside. Go enjoy your end years in a place you can do no harm to others.

“He posed with at least 2 Al-Qaeda members.’

The morning on CBS’s “Deface the Nation” show, Juan assured Bob Scheiffer Al Qaeda is not involved in the Syrian resistance. After all he met those guys and they assured him they were not terrorists.

The only redeeming thing about McCain’s appearance this morning was the absence of his pet Lindsay.

He just pulled a Jane Fonda, photo op with the enemies, Al-Qaeda. To me, he just lost his “Patriot” creds.

I’m encouraging people to invite him to join the democrat party and be done with it.

His twitter page for those who wish to extend the invite.

And got photographed with two who were kidnappers. You can’t make this stuff up. McStain’s cheese is officially off the plate. Time for Cindy to put him in a home.

Syrian is just the latest of McCain's treasonous acts. I'll use a line the Libs like to use, we're in a war with Al-Qaeda and terrorist. So far, with the help of McCain, there have been at least 3 countries that have been handed to Al-Qaeda under Obama and McCain.
Bush seemed to understand that there would be certain countries that are led by tyrants but kept out of the hands of terrorist. Obama and McCain don't seem to understand that.

Given his talents, McCain should not be on TV - the man should be in a LazyBoy shouting at the TV!

Isn’t there a U.S. law dating from the 1800s prohibiting private inference in foreign affairs? McCain is making himself look more stupid than usual.
