Republicans on Sunday kept up a drumbeat of criticism directed at Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., who has come under fresh scrutiny following the Justice Department’s handling of leak investigations.
“The attorney general has to ask himself the question, ‘Is he really able to effectively serve the president of the United States and the American people under the present circumstances?’

Some liberals in the media, such as Walter Pincus of the Washington Post, are worried that maybe people have been too hard on Eric Holder. I myself have attacked Eric Holder for secretly reading reporters' emails, seizing reporters' phone records, targeting reporters with subpoenas, labeling journalists as criminals, threatening reporters with criminal indictments, signing off on false affidavits, tracking reporters' movements, spying on their parents, suspending the First Amendment. But the gravity of what I had done in attacking Eric Holder didn't fully sink in until Monday morning when I saw, on the kitchen table, a notice from the IRS, after which I began to feel a deep sense of personal remorse.
(Ha, ha, ha -- just kidding!)
Eric Holder's three remaining supporters lament that Holder isn't getting any credit for not harassing and spying on reporters for months.
In fact, Holder last week began frantically reaching out to Washington bureau chiefs of the leading ink and broadcast news organizations. He said he suddenly wants their input on how to revise DOJ guidelines so he can have newer and better guidelines to ignore. He also wants their advice on how to bug and subpoena them more properly. (He wants to get it just right.)
As part of his new-found openness, Holder warned the press they could meet with him only in off-the-record sessions. Then he changed his mind. Out of love and respect for the First Amendment, they could report on vague, general areas of discussion only. In other words, the sessions would be off the record. Other than that, they were no-Holders-barred meetings, as Constitutional scholar Obama and Holder seek to faithfully execute the sacred vision of the founding fathers of the Espionage Act. Sensing the new openness, a reporter in attendance asked Holder for an interview and Holder eagerly and enthusiastically said 'no'.
Holder claims he now sincerely regrets spying on and stalking James Rosen, and that he also regrets seizing his and his parents' phone records and potentially prosecuting him, none of which Holder can recall doing.
And that he will never do it again. At Eric Holder's direction, Eric Holder will soon propose meaningful changes to the guidelines on dealing with investigations of reporters, especially one perplexing guideline which reads, "Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, or the press ..."
Out of reverence for the rule of law, liberals usually argue hysterically that laws that are old can be disregarded, which perhaps explains why Holder has such disdain for the Bill of Rights, adopted in 1791 -- unlike that spring chicken, the Espionage Act of 1917.
Holder insists he is trying to strike a better balance between the interests of journalist-snooping, wiretap-happy investigators on the one hand, and Subpoena/search-warrant-happy investigators on the other.
In the spirit of throwing a bunch of random alibis against the wall to see which one finally sticks, the latest risible piece of fiction, according to the administration, authoritatively citing the administration, consists of an upset Leon Panetta buzzing Eric Holder at home, demanding yet another leak probe. Obama and Panetta were worried to death about the North Korea leak because lives were allegedly at risk. Obama and Panetta were so worried to death about Benghazi (where lives actually were at risk) that neither lifted a finger to save any. Somehow, these 'lives-at-risk' worrywarts can't make anyone besides Juan Williams believe any of this. When your best flawed alibi still gives off a vigorous stink, and people somehow pick up the scent, who's next in line to get directed to the Obama bus's undercarriage becomes the next question.
We know the war on terror lurks under there. The conflict magically came to a close the other day at National Defense University, where Obama gave a speech as the University entered the Potomac River to meet the surrendered al-Qaeda. The absurdity here is that the same gung-ho, peace-in-our-time administration still has the hots for the wartime Espionage Act. Election Day 2014 can't get here soon enough.

I don’t think they feel any pressure over being criticized by Republicans. The same GOP that announces it is “undergoing repair” as McCain wanted because it is too strident against Obama.

Eric Holder is serving the President, and screwing over the American people. Doing exactly what Obama wants him to do.
Leave Holder alone for now and go after the big guy.
