Yah. Especially when some bozo thinks violating the Flag Code makes him a patriot.

Historically, flying the US flag upside down was a sign of distress.

Not historically, currently. But there is no "look at me, I'm making a political statement" exception to that rule.

The SCOTUS allows the flag to be burned as an expression of free speech. So is this.
To: DownInFlames
Precisely my point. And this guy should be treated as someone who is burning it.

I’m more concerned about the flying at half-mast every time a kitten gets stuck in a tree.

That bothers me more than you can imagine. The U.S. flag in the town where I live flies at half-mast so often that half the time I never learn why. Seriously?

We had a man of the mind, a Conservative / Libertarian talk show host during the Clinton years here in MI, The Late Mark Scott who did just that and was a Marine in Korea.

It’s not a violation of the flag code. America is in distress, so it’s appropriate.

The U.S. flag in the town where I live flies at half-mast so often that half the time I never learn why. Seriously? What drives me crazy is that the Volunteer Fire Dept. will have it full staff but the elementary school less than 1/8 m. away is at half. Or vice versa. I'm not kidding, I see a half-mast flag at least once every two weeks.

So, you found a “penumbra” in the Flag Code. Congrats. /s

Yeah, and bill ayers stomping on an American Flag is just swell. Hell, they would even give home a lowinski for it!

No one has seen In the Valley of Elah?
(SPOILER ALERT)
Tommie Lee Jones’s character goes into a school near the beginning of the story to let them know they have accidentally flown the flag upside down. By the end, he realizes it should be that way.

I’ve noticed this too. Seems like I saw it at half last week and kept wondering who had died or what I had missed.

The day after Election Day '08 and '12, I flew the flag with black streamers. Independence Day '12 was the first time I can remember NOT flying the flag for the holiday. I just couldn't bring myself to "celebrate" freedom, as it had been sold out from under me --twice -- by some of my own neighbors.
I empathize with the guy in this article. Since the '12 election I have refused to fly the flag because I equate that to support for the current regime and its goals.
