A farmer near Waco, Texas, was killed by a swarm of about 40,000 killer bees after he drove by their hive on Saturday.

The Waco Herald-Tribune reports that the victim, Larry Goodwin, was on his tractor and hit an unused chicken coop which housed the hive and the lethal Africanized honey bees attacked.

Goodwin's family told NBC station KCEN of Waco that every bit of exposed skin was covered with stings.

"He had thousands and thousands of bee stings on his face and arms," his daughter Tanya told KCEN.

Goodwin of Moody, Tex., tried to save himself by running to a garden hose but was unsuccessful.

A neighbour who tried to help, along with responding volunteer firefighters, were also stung several times by the aggressive bees.

CRC spray brake cleaner will drop any hornet, wasp or bee dead out of the air on contact. Shoots about ten feet, costs a couple bucks at AutoZone.

“A man’s gotta know his limitations”

A man does, it's the killer bees who don't!

Will the non-chlorinated work? I don’t know if you can get the good stuff here in California anymore.

Dunno, the can says it causes hair loss, impotence and cancer in the state of California. I only use the stuff in Utah.

As much of a sense of humor as I have, this is not something to joke about.

Africanized bees are one Hell of a danger. There is rarely a second chance with them once you’ve stirred them up. Rattlesnake or killer bees? I’ll take the rattlesnake any day of the the week. You can get away from a rattlesnake and then take basic steps to treat the bite that will allow you to live. Not so with the bee swarm. You can’t fight them off, outrun them, kill them all, etc. I fear them more than any other natural threat out there.

In this case, this guy didn’t disturb the hive. He just got too close to it without realizing it. On a tractor out in an open field with nowhere to go......dead man. When I’m out I listen first and foremost for the beehive/swarm.

I disturbed an underground nest while mowing and had several sting me on the same spot, one after another.

I did the same but didn't know it until they got up past my jeans and started nailing me through my t-shirt around the waist. It was a very painful 3 mile walk home.

I don’t know what’s worse. These or yellow jackets also known to swarm. Luckily these bees aren’t that far north yet.

My post was definitely not meant as a joke, that tv episode literally had me scared for a long time, to the point I would try to find airtight places for me, my family, and dog to hide for days if necessary(hey it was eight year old kid logic). Thankfully where we live the worst we deal with are yellow jackets and hornets, which pretty much ignore you as long as you ignore them.
Prayers for this man’s family, truly horrible.
