Syria borders Iraq, which is mostly Shiite. Regardless of what the government in Baghdad thinks, the Shiites of Iraq are not going to want to see fellow Shiites massacred in Syria in the wake of a Sunni victory.

The author starts with building a case for inaction so he can knock it down. However, I do not think he ever knocks down his own straw man argument. If fact he ends with stated that Obama has worked himself into a corner with very little options. So why wouldn’t the US secretly embrace an Islamic civil war?

The great danger we're faced with is creation of a radical Islamist caliphate, something Obama wants to see happen. The Mudslimes need a totally demoralizing experience to get them to swear off radical Islam. Historically, the only thing that really seems to work for any people is a prolonged, bloody, horrific, inconclusive war like WWI or the 30 Years’ War. The author of this article doesn't even seem to understand this basic proposition.

It is a bit more complicated than that because the part of Iraq that borders Syria is Sunni dominated. You have Sunni’s from that area fighting for the Free Syrian Army but the Shiite gov’t in Baghdad is allowing Iranian overflights into Syria.

I see no good options other than a quarantine around Islamic states. Maybe Red Cross aid, only if security is guaranteed.

Christians are being persecuted in those countries. I'd use that as an opportunity to halt our current immigration system to one that makes some sense: those Christian Arab refugees and those from other countries who are highly skilled and those who are wealthy enough to start businesses that hire beyond members of their family.

Obama’s a Sunni and his foreign policy objectives prove that. At every step he’s benefited Sunnis. The only exception is in Iran. There, my suspicion is that he prefers Sharia over liberty.
