Benched: Obama gives China’s leader patio furniture as parting gift, goes golfing

Posted at 8:48 pm on June 8, 2013 by Twitchy Staff

CBS News’ Mark Knoller and the rest of the White House press pool are kept at what seems to be a good distance from the president most of the time, but Knoller makes use of the space to deliver some witty observations from the sidelines. An iPod loaded with the president’s speeches probably would have been greatly appreciated for catching up on sleep during the long flight back to China, but for some reason President Xi found himself lugging home a bench.

There’s lots of stuff to get angry at B. Hussein Obama about... But these little trinket gifts between heads of state are just not among them. It’s what they do. It’s protocol. I’m just glad it’s a nice serviceable little bench seat... Suitable for their Zen garden or something... Instead of his earlier mistakes and offenses to the Brits.

Is the bench pink, or does it just appear to be pink in the photo?

Never ever use linseed oil on outdoor furniture Teak or tung is much better suited for that use

I went and looked at the site for that company, wow. Very nice, nicer than I thought. Call for quote on every item so it’s more than a little pricey, though. Likely bespoke, meaning built to order.

Might’ve been mistaken about the species, they specialize in using aged barrel oak from wine casks, specifically burgundy for the warm reddish stain.

Go to the manufacturer’s site, they recommend boiled linseed oil applied once yearly for their outdoor furniture.

Pretty taxky unless he made it with his own hands. Maybe Norm had Obama up to his workshop or something.

Looks like something bought off of Craig’s List in Rancho Mirage for $20.

High quality patio furniture is very common here and that item is in the lower 20% of the genre.

Xi was probably hoping for a bunch of veggies from Sashquash’s garden.

Obama has long proven himself a diplomatic nekulturny. I’m surprised he didn’t take out a $50 bill from his wallet, dig out the loose change from his pocket, in order to partially defray President Xi’s cab fare to the airport.

The bench has a built in microphone, GPS, packet sniffer, reads email and sends copies of the email to Obama. But only if the bench is facing Mecca.

What can you expect from a guy who was raised by a loving rich grandmother and never had to be a manager, except maybe in those “practice scenarios” or “hypothetical situations” in college and/or graduate programs?

There’s a good reason why this man and his family don’t have a sense of expenditure: he never really had to run a business.

Nothing embarrassing about that one at all

Except that "of America" is missing from the United States. It would be like omitting "of China" from the People's Republic. Just sayin'.
