Absolutely no one I know is satisfied with the education their children are getting in public schools. But most of the people I talk to with young kids have two parents that work full time outside the house and are unable to homeschool their children.
But a lot of parents are making the sacrifice as evidenced by the explosion of home schoolers in the US.

As dissatisfaction with the U.S. public school system grows, apparently so has the appeal of homeschooling. Educational researchers, in fact, are expecting a surge in the number of students educated at home by their parents over the next ten years, as more parents reject public schools.
A recent report in Education News states that, since 1999, the number of children who are homeschooled has increased by 75%. Though homeschooled children represent only 4% of all school-age children nationwide, the number of children whose parents choose to educate them at home rather than a traditional academic setting is growing seven times faster than the number of children enrolling in grades K-12 every year.
As homeschooling has become increasingly popular, common myths that have long been associated with the practice of homeschooling have been debunked.
Any concerns about the quality of education children receive by their parents can be put to rest by the consistently high placement of homeschooled students on standardized assessment exams. Data demonstrates that those who are independently educated generally score between the 65th and 89th percentile on these measures, while those in traditional academic settings average at around the 50th percentile. In addition, achievement gaps between sexes, income levels, or ethnicity--all of which have plagued public schools around the country--do not exist in homeschooling environments.

The article estimates that 4% of K-12 students are being homeschooled. At 3%, it was beyond the point of no return for the public school monopoly.

Actually on May 30th North Carolina passed legislation in the OPPOSITE direction.
“Home School” Redefined
With the signature of Governor Pat McCrory on May 30, 2013, North Carolina enacted Senate Bill 189, which redefines the term “home school” in state law.
The old law defined a home school as “a nonpublic school in which one or more children of not more than two families or households receive academic instruction from parents or legal guardians, or a member of either household.”
Whereas the old law limited the source of instruction for children to parents, legal guardians, or a member of either household in a two-household home school, the new law provides more flexibility and options for families to obtain instruction from other sources. The thrust of the new law is that the home school option for educating children is parent-directed, but parents and others named in the definition do not have to personally teach all of the subjects. While parents, guardians, or a member of either household should provide at least some of the instruction themselves, co-ops, tutors, and specialists for students with learning disabilities are among the additional sources of instruction that may be utilized.
The cost for dual enrollment at our local community college is 1/2 regular tuition per credit hour.
It only took one to three generations of compulsory socialist-entitlement K-12 schooling to give the nation Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The progressive system of K-12 indoctrination has been entrenched in this nation since the mid-1800s. Progressives have always pushed for compulsory schooling, longer and more days,and enrollment at earlier and earlier ages. Progressives have always controlled teacher training and curriculum development. Progressives have always been pushed society's moral envelope.
That is excellent news but don’t ever think you have the Leftist beat. They never give up. They will keep pushing their agenda until they win or die.
Rush does not want to offend his listeners. It is the same reason that churches have been so slow in responding to the education crisis in this nation.
In my county, the school district is the single largest employer in the county. No other business comes close in the size of the payroll or number of employees. Few ministers will bite the hand putting money in the collection plate and Rush isn’t going to bite that hand either.
We have been Homeschooling since 1995, my oldest graduated this year, I will graduate one a year starting in 2016, the only time any of them have been on school grounds is for Church. (our Church meets in a school gym)
My Son, who was a die hard, 100% boy scout, well on his way to Eagle, pulled him self out of scouts before I could. Funny how an 11 year old, gets it. I am proud of him he took a stand for God, and his values.
We’re going primarily homeschool next year because my daughters are having medical problems.
They’ll take some classes at their current private school: chemistry (because of the labs), theater, and latin (because my daughter loves the teacher).
English, history, and math will be online. We’ll see how it goes.

I’ve got a boy going on 6 in August. I want to home-school 100%, but I work full time and my wife is not confident she can teach him.
Any ideas?
Can I teach him after work? Can I somehow instill confidence in my wife that she can do it? Another problem is that English is her second language.
I’m in AZ btw. I’ve read the laws, and I know only a parent can teach when homeschooling.
Homeschoolers are huge supporters of our book “A Patriot’s History of the United States”. However, at 4% homeschoolers have a long way to go. I figure another 10% are privately schooled. That’s too many government-propagandize s zombies.
You know, with people living longer and with retirement homes filled with retired teachers who are still sharp — it amazes me that more academies haven’t been formed to put grandparent-aged former teachers with young students whose parents want no part of public school “education”....
That's mainly because they are addicted to "goodies" - new trucks, boats, big houses and lavish vacations.
We make do with one paycheck in order to homeschool - no toys or vacations, just a well-educated child with a Biblical foundation.

Not surprising the communists and unrepentant terrorists of the 60’s chose new careers in education.

Let me translate that: “...and many more live with families where the parents must work full time in order to keep up appearances in their social circles.”
There are ALWAYS options, such as crappy neighborhoods (and does that matter if you home school?), condos, apartments. Move close enough to where the one breadwinner works and you have little or no transportation (commuting) costs either.

Actually Rush has blasted them many times - he could care less if teachers are listening, but his show is event-driven, so if there’s nothing in the news on the subject, he generally won’t bring it up. You may well have a point about churches though.
But it’s not just the teachers and the others on the payroll, it’s the parents that are VERY, VERY, COMFORTABLE with the idea of getting ‘free daycare’ for 36 weeks a year, rather than having to pull-in their lifestyle a bit and either keep a parent home, or pay directly for school. I learned that the hard way, talking about my kids at work, no one wanted to hear it - they just figured they “born-smart”, which may or may not be true (and even if so, nothing special), but they were DEFINITELY “born-lazy” which also assures failure in today’s public schools.
