Homeschool enrollment explodes

Absolutely no one I know is satisfied with the education their children are getting in public schools. But most of the people I talk to with young kids have two parents that work full time outside the house and are unable to homeschool their children.

But a lot of parents are making the sacrifice as evidenced by the explosion of home schoolers in the US.

From Breitbart:

As dissatisfaction with the U.S. public school system grows, apparently so has the appeal of homeschooling. Educational researchers, in fact, are expecting a surge in the number of students educated at home by their parents over the next ten years, as more parents reject public schools.

A recent report in Education News states that, since 1999, the number of children who are homeschooled has increased by 75%. Though homeschooled children represent only 4% of all school-age children nationwide, the number of children whose parents choose to educate them at home rather than a traditional academic setting is growing seven times faster than the number of children enrolling in grades K-12 every year.

As homeschooling has become increasingly popular, common myths that have long been associated with the practice of homeschooling have been debunked.

Any concerns about the quality of education children receive by their parents can be put to rest by the consistently high placement of homeschooled students on standardized assessment exams. Data demonstrates that those who are independently educated generally score between the 65th and 89th percentile on these measures, while those in traditional academic settings average at around the 50th percentile. In addition, achievement gaps between sexes, income levels, or ethnicity--all of which have plagued public schools around the country--do not exist in homeschooling environments.

According to the report:

Recent studies laud homeschoolers' academic success, noting their significantly higher ACT-Composite scores

Separate school and state, before it is too late.

i unfortuntately was a single mom (divorced for physical abuse. broken nose etc). then in my second marriage i was bread winner. all of my children attended christian school some part of their lives. i just couldnt afford it all the time. i wish i could have home schooled or at least sent them all to christian schools for 12 yrs but i could not. i was too busy working to pay irs and 4000 in property taxes.
the more they take our money the less we can afford to educate our kids the way we want to.

Progressives have always pushed for compulsory schooling, longer and more days, and enrollment at earlier and earlier ages. Progressives have always controlled teacher training and curriculum development.

I do not disagree with you at all. And while many here are pushing for homeschooling and I do support them in their efforts...I hope many realize it is a Band-Aid and not the solution to the problem. You, wintertime, actually state the problem.

We know they are going to come after homeschoolers. As individual entities they are not going to be able to stand against the rogue regime of progressive government. Sure, they'll fight, sue and we'll defend them...but that gets the whole issue mired down in the battle and not the winning the war.

I am thinking about an solution and I have no idea if it would work or how to make it work. Is there a legitimate way to create the 'little red schoolhouse concept' all over again? Is there a way for small groups of conservative parents to get together and teach their kids using a homeschooling type curriculum?

and my wife is not confident she can teach him.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am very sad when I read or hear the above. Why?

Answer: This lack of confidence is **entirely** due to the indoctrination that Americans have received while attending their own K-12, prison-like, and brick and mortar schools. Of course brick and mortar schools want their graduates to believe that only such institutions can teach children. It is how they perpetuate their evil!

Of course your wife is capable of teaching your children! She taught them to speak in English, toilet trained him, how to eat with spoon and fork, ride a bike, roller skate, tie their shoes, say please and thank you, dress themselves ...etc. None of this is learned in **school**!

Believe me teaching a child to read and do arithmetic is NOT any different than any of the **thousands** of things she has already taught your children.

Please visit a homeschooling meeting with your wife so you can both see that ordinary people are rearing up extraordinary children by doing what God has naturally planned for us to do.

To win the war we MUST get conservatives and Christians to see the bigger picture. Name any issue and, yes, conservative might win skrimishes but they will LOSE the cultural war. Why?

Answer: Because the Marxists in this nation have near total control of every major cultural institution that will influence how the next generation of voters will vote.

Solution: Recommend the Yuri Besmenov Youtube tapes to everyone that you know.

Solution: Collapse the system. There are entire counties (and even whole states) where, if conservatives and Christians simply removed their children, the entire GODLESS and socialist indoctrination K-12 system would immediately collapse!

Solution: SHAME and SHUN anyone who works for the EVIL and godless socialist-entitlement K-12 schools. These people are destroying the hearts, minds, and SOULS of children. It is EVIL that they are doing!

Solution: Persuade parents to get their precious children OUT of the godless and socialist-based government schools. NO education would be better than feeding their children this poison.

NRA? Will eventually lose because children are being taught to hate and fear guns in school and in the media.

Homosexual “marriage”? Conservatives have already lost in many states, and will continue to lose because children are being conditioned by anti-bullying propaganda in their schools and in the media.

Sex before marriage? Already completely lost that war!

Name any issue? In ONE generation the Marxists win because they have control over our children and conservatives and Christians let them. Yuri Besmenov warned us and we did not listen and still refuse to believe him.

No one wants your children to succeed more than you and your wife. There are so many aids and curriculae out there to help. You begin one step at the time. Your wife will get the equivalent of another college education just by preparing for teaching the kids. Your kids will learn more in 3 hours each morning than they will at government schools in 8 hours. They will be better adjusted. They will learn to interact with kids their age, 2 years older, 5 years older, young adults, older adults. They will look them in the eye and have conversations. The government schools have 8 year olds interat with 8 year olds. It has an effect.

Do it. It will be the best thing you ever did for your children.

Remember...there is a lot of help out there.

Absolutely no one I know is satisfied with the education their children are getting in public schools.

I know most are happy with their kid’s public education in Severna Park MD which is a suburb of Annapolis MD. It is a wealthier area though. I send my kid’s to St. John’s in Severna Park., MD (we live in Arnold, MD which is just down the street from Severna Park). For high school, we have 2 kids in St. Mary’s in Annapolis, MD. My wife and I cannot even trust the good public schools though.

It’s so prevalent that Texas has even set up a public online school, to cater to homeschoolers. They say it is for the kids with intense athletic training schedules, artistic lessons and health restrictions.
They even have radio commercials for it.

Normalcy bias.

When tyranny comes to the U.S., the fascist oligarchy will not herd citizens on to cattle cars. No! No!

Instead big yellow school busses will arrive and our nation's citizens will willingly board them just as they have been so well trained to do by well-meaning by ignorant government teachers.

Wintertime is an incredible homeschool advocate who really got me to look at homeschooling. I was very anti-homeschooling because of what the media spoke about it and hearing from people about homeschool who don’t homeschool by the way. I am very pro-homeschool. We still send our kids to Catholic School but I never bash homeschooling anymore. We don’t have the guts to pull the kids out of Catholic School and homeschool....lol.

There are no “good” government schools. Why?

1) All government owned and run K-12 schools are godless in their worldview. Simply to cooperate in the godless classroom the child must think and reason godlessly. How could it be otherwise? This is evil. It is not good.

2) All government owned and run K-12 schools in this nation are a single-payer and compulsory socialist-entitlement that enforce on the child and taxpayer by means of armed police threat. Simply by attending children risk learning to be comfortable with government compulsion and police threat. They risk learning that any voting mob powerful enough to give them tuition-free schooling is powerful enough to give them **LOTS** of free stuff. This is not good. It is evil to do this to children.

3) No education is religiously, politically, or culturally neutral. Such a state can not exist in the mind of any sentient being. Government schools are NOT neutral and never were. Any child who attends will be subjected to the NON-neutral religious, political, and religious worldview of the most politically powerful. They risk learning that it is OK to crush the freedom of conscience of the minority. This is an EVIL thing to do to children.

Personally......I have made a decision. I SHUN government K-12 teachers. They are too evil, stupid, or too much of a Useful Idiot to have around cluttering up my life with their EVIL.

Thank you! You changed my whole outlook on Homeschooling. I used to look at people who homeschool with distain and a strangeness and you changed my mind completely.

I agree. These Severna Park parents are more interested in getting their kids into the best schools and not having the best life.

My wife was personally responsible for at least 4 more kids here in Idaho being pulled out of public schools next school year.

The wife of a local business owner who we have dealings with was considering homeschooling after the Common Core thing was announced, and my wife convinced her to do it.

She attended the Idaho homeschool convention with us (which just ended yesterday afternoon) and that just sealed the deal.

Very good way to put it.

Getting a child into the most prestigious schools is often the most direct path to a miserable life ( temporal and eternal).

Standby for a new federal law coming down the pike which states, “All children under the age of 18 years MUST be educated in a public that would mean government) schools.”

Don’t believe it? Just wait and we will see.
